    Penny-Arcade offerring $10,000 Game Education Scholarship

    This is awesome and huge news! Penny Arcade has announced the Penny Arcade Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year. The Penny Arcade Scholarship awards one qualifiying student $10,000 to help pursue a career in the game industry. The application process requires a two-page essay describing the applicant’s studies and intent to benefit the game industry. You’ll also need two letters of recommendation and a copy of your transcripts. The other requirements include being a full-time student at an accredited college or university and must have a GPA with a 3.3 minimum on a 4.0 scale. All applications will be based on “a student’s service, leadership, character and finanical need.” You don’t have a lot of time to apply, all submissions must be in by April 30, 2008 and the winner will be announced in July.     Majesco announces First Fiscal quarter financial results

    Majesco has to be happy as net sales have improved 29% to $18.7 million. That’s a lot of Cooking Mama sales! Cooking Mama actually delivered a revenue increase of 47 percent. “Our strategy is working and we are executing on our business plan,” continued Sutton. “We expect to continue to benefit from the improvements we have made in our operations throughout the rest of the year. Our new studio is open and is developing its first title, Our House for DS, which complements the previously announced Wii version and helps build our portfolio of intellectual property. We are focused on expanding the number of titles we publish and strengthening our retail distribution.     EA brings in new Publishing President and COO

    EA has choosen outside of games for their Publishing President and new Chief Operating Officer. John Pleasants, was formally the president of Revolution Health Group and CEO of Ticketmaster. The new position will have Pleasants leading the global publishing organization and being responsible for central development and technology teams. “This is a phenomenal opportunity and there’s no better time to be joining EA,” said Pleasants. “John Riccitiello and the team at EA have laid out the right plan to take EA forward by building innovative products, expanding digital revenues, and extending its strengths in global publishing. I’m excited about the challenge of leading these initiatives and working with this talented team.”
