An Introduction of Sorts
I can’t begin to tell you how excited I was when Trina contacted me to write on Gaming Angels. This place is beautiful and I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone here and getting to chat with and know you all.
A little bit about myself: My daily persona is that of a mild-mannered accountant in the San Francisco Bay Area. By night, I’m a rabid netizen and comic book reader. Many are the night when I’ve sat in bed with my stack of comics and realized that yet again, I have read well into the night and will not be getting enough sleep. Ah, yes, dreaming about the X-Men and waking up in the morning to put on slacks and drudge out into the real world.
In terms of video gaming, well, modern video games have gotten just too gorgeous and too good. The more realistic games give me extreme vertigo. I can cope with a bunch of the Wii games but that’s about it. Video games for me will always be the old school 16 bit games. Give me my Super Mario Bros and leave it at that.
Vertigo be damned, though, one must game! So, I have graduated into the world of analogue gaming. I play Role Playing Games – D&D, D20, GURPS and Serenity so far. I also am into the board games. There are some definite overlaps – while playing a board game the other night, one of the gamers kept comparing her strategy to that of her strategies in Civ4.
My comics lust is near insatiable. I am a huge Marvel fan. After Iron Man, there were two girls in the restroom – one of them said to the other “I can’t believe he made us sit through five minutes of credits for that one minute thing I didn’t even understand” and it was very hard for me not to give her the background continuity. I read some DC, absolutely love Grant Morrison. I’m all about the indie comics – the bigger houses all the way to the self-published unknowns. A few of my favorite comic book authors are Warren Ellis, Brian K. Vaughn, Gail Simone and of course, Neil Gaiman (who doesn’t love that man?).
Enough about me, folks. I’ll see you on Gaming Angels.
