Unknown Anime of the Week 5/10/2008

Time sure does flies. I missed a week already! Well I actually have a great anime to present to you this week to make up. I know I’ve been focusing of late on science-fiction anime but to me these types of anime do get overlooked the most often. So, this week’s anime feature is Solty Rei. Remember you can always suggest a show to be featured here. By e-mailing me at Vainya[at]gamingangels[dot]com.

Name of series: Solty Rei
Licensed by: FUNimation Entertainment
Broadcast on: Anime Selects VOD
Genres: action, drama, science fiction
Age rating: Teen (for language, nudity and violence )
Number of episodes: 24

Plot summary by Anime News Network: In a future-based disaster-ridden city with an enormous gap between the rich and the poor, it is hard to tell which humans are walking around with cybernetic body parts. This makes Roy Revant’s job as a renegade bounty hunter/bodyguard-for-hire even more difficult. When a young girl with unbelievable strength rescues him from a particularly dangerous criminal, Roy realizes that perhaps help can be found in the strangest of places. Joining together with a few others, they engage in a battle to find out the truth behind the giant conglomerates that are supposedly serving mankind and making life better.

Why I think it deserves a watch?: It is definitely a futuristic anime that takes place on a planet where the poor live underground in the old city where they stay because they cannot afford ID cards which make them citizens while the rich live above ground and do have access to ID cards. The touching story of Roy Revant will make anyone feel for him. He lost his daughter in a disaster called the Blast Fall and his wife from illness and he’s really trying to establish identity and a place within the world. Then comes a girl at his door, he renames her Solty Revant after a record he has. At first he doesn’t like being a parent to her but he does really warm up to her in the end. You will be forever glued to the screen (either computer or television) as Solty and Roy uncover the truth about Eunomia, one of the huge computers that control the city and defeat Ashley who’s obviously up to no good. You’ll fall in love with the Andersons who are like the Robin Hoods of the story and best of all the plot is full of twists and turns. All in all it’s an anime that you don’t want to miss seeing.
