CES 2009: Gunnar Optiks

By: Cherith

At CES this year, I got to try out some really great glasses by Gunnar Optiks. These glasses use special lens technology that enhances the the way people see. With custom tuned lens tints and coatings, the Gunnar Optik glasses give an immediate benefit to the visual performance of the wearer.

If you’ve ever had to work long hours staring at your inbox, or a spreadsheet, you understand how the lines can blur, and the harsh white of most background can make your eyes dry and make it uncomfortable to work. These glasses help tone down the harshness of florescent lights and white computer screens, the lenses provide a small enhancement or magnification to make sure that your eyes aren’t strained during use, and remain as capable as possible over time. The magnification provided by the lenses isn’t as strong as even the weakest of reading glasses you can buy from most pharmacies, but it’s enough to notice an immediate difference when looking at a spreadsheet, or normal office document.

If you’ve ever worked any time in a normal office, you’d notice an immediate difference when trying out these glasses. I was able to try out a pair at CES and when looking at the spreadsheets and presentations they provided at the booth, was able to notice an immediate change in what I saw. Everything looks crisper, cleaner and less bright than it does in my normal day to day work. I’m definitely hoping to grab a pair for myself to use on a daily basis.

If you’re fashion conscious, there are several different options to try – different colors, different styles, although the difference in style can mean a difference in price. Luckily, no matter the style, the lenses and benefits remain the same. If you’re looking to try out a pair for yourself, you can check out the online store at the Gunnar website or ask at your local Optometrist office.
