Mean Girls – The Game!

The second in the series of three announced games released in partnership between Legacy Interactive and Paramount Entertainment, Mean Girls is proving to be true to the movie and a different fun twist to classic match 3 that fans will adore.

The promise of a sort of choose your own adventure aspect as well as a mixture of RPG and Match 3 was very appealing as I set out on my first adventure as the new girl in school, learning the ropes and the nature of the plastics. I do like the effort to accurately weave the movie into the game and the characters so far are likeable and true. The match three has a few fun bonuses to it because Players are “battling” with other kids that they come across in the halls trying to complete missions. Experience bumps up the level of the player’s “customized” character, and unlock new skills and attributes.
I have yet to feel like I am making many choices as to what my character does, what she says, or how she acts, but I do have a feeling (read “hope”) that as I continue to play, choices I am able to make will fill out her personality. The game is pretty easy to follow and understand, the controls are clear, and it is entertaining, as well as visually appealing. The only thing I am not enjoying too much about the game is the music. It is pretty true to the type of movie Mean Girls is, but it would be nice if there were either more “songs” or longer clips (ideally both) so when playing the match three portion, extended battles wouldn’t play the same riffs over and over.
I certainly think so far that the game is worth a play – I can’t wait to see what happens if I play through it more than once and make drastically different choices. Very good for teens – especially girls in school still, there is someone everyone can relate to inside.
