TMNT Arcade Game – Old School never truly gets old

The classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game I poured quarters into as a child is available again on Xbox Live Arcade. Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo are actually back on the big screen and have a new video game out. For those that are too young to remember the fab four, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles started as a comic book in 1984. The first film was created in 1990. The turtles were wise cracking, pizza-loving teenagers that fought against forces of evil in their sewer hideout. A mutated rat, Splinter, raised the turtles.

Graphics:
The graphics seem to be exactly the same…which is bad on a 60-inch DLP screen. At times, it was difficult to keep track where you were on the screen.

Controls:
The game is best when played with friends like you were back at the arcade. The controls are pretty basic, jump, move and hit. But some areas did seem harder than I remember.

Sound:
No real music for sound, but instead was full with classic phrases like tubular and cowabunga.

Flow:
This game moves so fast when you aren’t restricted by the number of quarters you have in your pocket! Even the general pace of the game seems to be constantly pushing forward.

Fun Factor:
The game has major nostalgia points. Running through this game is like being 12 again. The rest of the fun factor comes from having to go back to make all the achievement points.

Female Aspect:
Other than April, whom you rescue, there isn’t a female presence in the game.

Replay Value:
There is almost a forced replay factor because of the specific achievements. Unlike most Xbox 360 games, you don’t get an achievement for every time you beat a boss. Most are achievable and one is a secret achievement that only gets unlocked when you accomplish another one.
