The Marvel Digital Comics service is only $4.95 a month (billed as one yearly payment of $59.88) and that gives you access to the service. To test out the service for myself I tried out Pride & Prejudice.
Writer Nancy Butler and Inker Hugo Petrus take their spin with this classic story. Where Lizzy’s father is trying to marry off all the sisters and a Mr. Darcy is brooding and moody.
“This project has been like a dream come true for me as a writer and as a former graphic designer—not only am I adapting a book I love, I am doing it in the one forum, comics, where words and pictures carry equal weight.”
The comic itself is very well done. It’s a proper and fun re-creation of the classic. Unfortunately I’m not on board with reading it digitally. I am convinced to read more of the series and that I would enjoy it. But the digital service makes it difficult to read the comics. The Marvel Digital service opens in a new window. You have the options of viewing the comic as Single page, Two page, or Smart Page layout. The best layout for reading the digital comics is Single page. I found it very difficult to read the text in the two page layout.
The digital service may be a great idea for someone that wants to read many Marvel comics from the comfort of her/his home. Otherwise go down to your local comic book store and pick these comics up. I will say that Marvel Mondays is a great way to check out a series and see if it’s something you want to try!
