E3 2009: Hands On First Look at League of Legends: Clash of Fates by Riot Games

One of the parties that I attended at this years E3 was hosted by Riot Games to show off their new online multiplayer action RPG, League of Legends: Clash of Fates.  Here you play as Summoners with an avatar tied to the player’s account that will advance and level up over time.  You can play as over 40 champions as well as choose from hundreds of items for your avatar.  What is great is that there are no monthly subscription fees so you can play online as  well as get frequent updates for the game. Riot Games is a Los Angeles based game developer and publisher made up of about 40 employees, many of them veteran game developers.  They set out to create this MMO PvP title and have introduced some fun and unique characters like Nunu, the Yeti Rider – who looks like a little boy riding on the

World of Warcraft Mountain Dew Girl Fight

The most recent Mountain Dew ad shows two women battling it out as they turn into WoW players. It’s actually quite awesome that Mountain Dew and Blizzard chose to use women in their ad instead of just men. Another unique aspect is one of the women actually turns into a male Orc which helps to show that they understand women play male characters too. It definitely shows that they understand that Women play World of Warcraft and therefore are potential consumers of Moutain Dew. Kudos to both companies. Here is the ad sent to us from the wonderful MsPixel. Follow

    Sony responds to Activision boss

We just received the following response from Sony in response Activision’s Bobby Kotick threatening to drop Playstation 3 support. “PlayStation has tremendous momentum coming out of E3, and we are seeing positive growth with more than 350 titles slated to hit across all our platforms, including many anticipated games from our publishing partners. We enjoy healthy business relationships with and greatly value our publishing partners and are working closely with them to deliver the best entertainment experience.” If any pressure is being applied Sony isn’t showing it. While a price drop would be nice and beneficial, it looks like Sony won’t be bullied into announcing one. Follow

Activision Boss threatens to drop PS3

Activision boss, Bobby Kotick is calling for a price cut on the Playstation 3 or Activision could stop making Playstation games. In an interview with The Times, Bobby Kotick states, “I’m getting concerned about Sony – the PS3 is losing a bit of momentum and they don’t make it easy for me to support the platform. “It’s expensive to develop for the console, and the Wii and the Xbox are just selling better. Games generate a better return on invested capital on the Xbox than on the PlayStation.” The solution to Kotick is to cut the price of the console to help boost sales. “They have to cut the price, because if they don’t, the attach rates are likely to slow,” he continued. “If we are being realistic, we might have to stop supporting Sony. When we look at 2010 and 2011, we might want to consider if we support

Ubisoft confirms Splinter Cell Conviction 360 exclusive

During a developer Q &A on the Ubisoft forums, Ubisoft confirms that Tom Clancy Splinter Cell Conviction will be a 360 exclusive. ” Splinter Cell conviction is a true Microsoft exclusive title and there are no plans to have Splinter Cell Conviction on other platforms. There are several reasons behind this choice. First of all, Splinter Cell games are historically linked with Microsoft platforms. The first Splinter Cell on the original Xbox was one of the first games to fully exploit the console’s technical possibilities. At that time, Microsoft really believed in the game potential and provided strong support to promote it. So, there is a “link of heart” between the franchise and the platform. Some games are like this (think of Final Fantasy for instance). The second reason behind this choice is purely linked to production. Having a single target platform means that we can optimize the game even

    Omerta announces new features

Omerta Game Ltd, has announced new features to their Mafia-themed MMORPG, Omerta. There will be updates weekly to the free-to-play browser game. The game is about crime, power and Mafia connections. Omerta players try to climb to the top of the gangster world by being gangster. This means, racketeering, racing stolen cars, smuggling contraband, and creating powerful family connections. The first addition is City Spots: “City spots are mostly businesses like Bars, Restaurants, Car lots, etc. Players of the new version of Omerta will be able to own these. But keeping them will be a challenge as other gangsters can raid, driving by with armed friends or setting explosives off, to try to take the City spot object away. If one family keeps possession of the city spot object, intact and profitable after 23 hours, then all members of that Mafia family benefit from significant in-game rewards” explains Otto Adang,

iLectric Football Game coming to iPhone

I put this article in the news, mostly because it’s cool and to remind me to buy this for my dad when he gets his iPhone. As a kid, my dad and I would play electric football for hours. Electric football is basically a football field that would vibrate. Players place their team on the field, flip the switch and the vibrations would move the team in different ways which could end up in a touchdown. We used to buy kits of the little men at Sears and then paint them team colors. Of course we were always the Vikings. I’m so excited to hear that Steamroller Studios has created “iLectric Football” coming to the iPhone and iPod touch this summer. There is an easy user interface and can basically play the game with a touch of one button. Fans of the old electric game will love the ability to
