Blogging

It’s pretty common for anyone to have a blog. The term citizen journalism came about because people are always on the watch and eager to “Twitter” or blog about what is going on. Media Law Resource Center in New York, courts have settled about $17.4 million in trial awards resulting from blog and website posts. Many more are still awaiting trial.

This could lead to some major damage to your checking account. Claims of defamation of character, slander, and copyright aren’t covered under a homeowner insurance policy. Which puts the blogger at full liability.

“The best defense is to read your policy and know what it covers,” said Insurance Information Network of California : Executive Director Candysse Miller. “Bloggers face many new challenges and insurers are designing policies to accommodate these new risks.”

Has anyone sued Perez Hilton yet?? I think he’s the king of “defamation of character & slander”. Did you hear about what he did after it was announced Michael Jackson died?
