E3 2009 Demo – Mass Effect 2

masseffect2_screenshot_02_900x506By now, you may have already heard some of the big news surrounding Mass Effect 2 from EA and BioWare.  We had a chance at E3 to sit and watch the game play demo and see some of the exciting story that’ll be in the new game.  One of the coolest additions to the game is the ability to continue conversations while in motion, so there’s no more stopping to chat and losing time on your way somewhere – and those choices will let you have a bigger impact during cut scenes as well, letting you choose what to say, and how your adventure with Commander Shepard turns out.  I especially think that the interrupt feature is a nice touch – which was demo’d to us by the Commander stopping a discussion by shoving a guy out of a building.

And one of the most surprising and sort of revealing parts of the demo is the information that your Commander Shepard is not expected to survive the entire story in Mass Effect 2.  When this sequel hits shelves next year, there’s going to be a new darker, harder edge to the game.  Players will see and understand that characters – including yours, can die.  I don’t want to spoil it for the fans out there, but loyalty plays a large issue in the major turning point of the game, and it’ll definitely keep fans on the edge of their seats trying to figure out what to do next.

If you want to see some of the game, you can watch the trailer below from GameTrailers:
