E3 2009 – Tony Hawk Hands On First Look
I had a chance to try out the upcoming Tony Hawk skateboarding game, Tony Hawk Ride, which will include a new skateboard peripheral similar to the Wii Fit Balance Board but is shaped like a skateboard with motion sensors on all four sides. I have to admit, I was a little intrepid about stepping on the board as I am so ultra careful with my Balance Board (at least I was when I first got it). I have been on a skateboard only once or twice in my life and I was in 7th grade and far more active and still, I had some difficulties. However, as soon as I stepped on the Tony Hawk board, I could tell it was made for shredding so I got pretty comfortable as time went on. They had some great instructors to take you through the game demo and show you just a few of the moves that you can do in the game.
What’s really appealing about Ride is that anyone can play regardless of their skateboarding skills. I was doing ollies, jumps, and grabs in no time. The skateboard controller is very responsive – everything that I performed on the board translated perfectly in the game.
Tony Hawk Ride comes out in October 2009 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and the Wii and will come bundled with the skateboard controller for $120.
