E3 First Look – Squeeballs Party
Tweet
If you listened to the E3 Wrap-up podcast that we did, you’ve already heard me talk a bit about this game. PDP is doing something that Microsoft just unveiled for theirself – bringing motion control to the Xbox 360, only PDP plans to do it this fall, where Microsoft has no known release date for their Project Natal. Squeeballs Party is a fun party game with over 150 challenges. It’ll be shipping for the Wii, DS, iPhone and Xbox 360 with the latter including motion sensor bars and a new controller style.
I had the opportunity to get some hands-on time with the game, and I fell in love with it. The Squeeballs are adorable, the graphics of the game on the 360 are beautiful, and the motion control is spot on. And yes, the challenges are fun (and not always easy). On the 360, the GameTrak Freedom motion controllers work with two sensor bars (one on each side of the television), this helps the controller and the game judge more accurately both an X and Y axis and gives you what feels like more stable control over the game. Personally, control in Wii games has always felt a bit shakey, and not entirely accurate. With the GameTrak Freedom controller, I didn’t get that shakey motion on the screen, and felt like I could make a wider range of movements that the game caught quickly and accurately.
Squeeballs Party will be out this fall, and I think it’s definitely looking into, especially if you’re a fan of some of the group games on the Wii. The prices will vary by console, with the 360 version with the bundled GameTrak being the most expensive, but if you want to get the most from the game, that’s the version to try. Also worth noting is that the iPhone version may not have all 150 challenges, instead, the game may be broken down into smaller chunks with few challenges, or individual challenges available separately – but it hasn’t been determined for certain yet.
