Tune In To Terebi – Mei-chan no Shitsuji
Tweet

Next up in my Japanese TV spotlight is a completely outrageous and delightful tale revolving around a very unique school and the very interesting students who attend it.
Mei grew up very simply; the daughter of loving parents who ran a small udon shop in a modest town. Surrounded by friends and family who cared for her, Mei never knew much about her heritage. Everything changes one day when her parents have passed on, and a rather handsome man arrives claiming to be her butler.
As we soon discover, Mei is the heir to a large international company. Her father removed himself from the Hongo family when he broke an arranged marriage and decided to spend his life with her mother. Now that her parents are gone, the head of the Hongo clan gives Mei a choice: attend St. Lucia’s Gakuen and become a proper heir to the family business, or live her life as she wishes, but her parents will not be laid to rest together.
And so Mei heads to St. Lucia, a school full of well-to-do girls, future heads of major families. At this school, every lady is attended to at all times by their butlers. The girls are divided by “ranks” based on the colored jewels known here as Stella that are given to the students for displaying proper lady-like behavior or actions. At the bottom of the food chain, Mei and her butler Rihito move into the shabby Ombra house and Mei’s new life begins.
Rihito is an S-Rank butler, graduated from the top English butler academy and loyal to serve the heads of the Hongo family, as his family has done for years. He is well-known at St. Lucia’s, and his reappearance at Mei’s side has everyone curious. Rihito vows to stay by Mei’s side no matter what, and promises he will be there for her for the rest of her life.
Kento, Mei’s childhood friend and younger brother to Rihito, follows Mei to St. Lucia’s, announcing he is now going to join in the family business. Really, this is just his way to stay close to Mei. Even though the two of them pick on each other a lot, they really care about one another.
Several obstacles face Mei as she tries to become a lady and stay in St. Lucia’s; another heir to the family, personal attacks by her classmates, and even kidnapping and assassination attempts on her life. As Mei tries her best to become a lady, can she deal with the challenges this new world presents? This series is all about finding yourself and the strength you have within yourself to positively affect the world around you and be the best person you can be – all with a cute little love story neatly tucked away inside.
