    Jennifer Love Hewitt creates a new comic series

    Jennifer Love Hewitt is launching her first comic book with IDW Publishing. Jennifer Love Hewitt’s The Music Box is a ten-issue anthology series about a mysterious music box that causes strange occurrences for the people who posses it. “Love has created a really interesting premise for a comic book series,” said IDW Publisher/Editor-in-Chief, Chris Ryall. “Each story tells a standalone tale and they are all linked together by this mysterious music box.” The Music Box will be written by Scott Lobdell with painted art by Michael Gaydos. Future issues will feature other talented artists. “The chance to create my very own comic, and a horror/thriller at that, is like a very fun nightmare come true,” said Hewitt. “I’ve always been fascinated by the notion that an inanimate object can hold as much malevolent energy as a human being can.     Women in Manga panel at SDCC

    One of the few panels I was able to make was the Women in Manga panel at San Diego Comic Con. The panel was aoderated by Eva Volin, and featured Leyla Aker (Viz Media), Deb Aoki (About.com), Robin Brenner, Becky Cloonan, Lillian Diaz-Przybyl (Tokyopop), and JuYoun Lee. The original aim of the panel was to discuss women in the manga business, how to keep manga readers as they get older, and what are some thoughts on the future of manga in the United States. The panel was pretty early Saturday morning yet the room was full of women eager to hear advice from other women about starting a career in manga. The first topic that Eva brought up to the panel was the fact that teenage girls have been credited with the success of manga in the United States.
