Hazardous Products: Greenpeace demonstrations against Hewlett-Packard

Sometimes it best to stick to your promises. Today, Greenpeace activists climbed to the top of Hewlett-Packard’s global headquarters and painted the message  “Hazardous Products” in big, bold letters on the roof.  Fear not Eco-friends! The message that was 11, 500 square ft.(the size of two and half basketball courts) was written in non-toxic children’s finger-paint.  That’s what I call eco-conscience activism! Also during this protests, Hewlett-Packard offices in China and Holland were also affected. What spurned on this?  According to a press release, the reason for the protest was because  Hewlett-Packard “backtracked on its public commitment to eliminate key toxic chemicals in its products by the end of this year (1).” “HP continues to put hazardous products on the market despite promises made years ago to phase out these toxic compounds,” said Greenpeace International Toxics Campaigner Casey Harrell.  “Apple has led the sector in phasing out of these toxic

Stealthyslyth visits Wuhu Island and plays Wii Sports Resort

Last week I was able to head over to  check out the little piece of tropical paradise that Nintendo created in order to showcase their new game Wii Sports Resort. It was complete with a small pool, sand, palm trees and refreshing drinks. Let me tell you, this was one heck of a strange site to see smack dab in the middle of New York City! As I walked in I was given a blue and white flower lei and shown to the cabana tents that were set up that had Wii consoles and TVs set up for some of the games you could play, as well as a few booths for free-play.  I was able to sneak in and play the Archery,  Swords and Canoeing. I was surprised with how much of a difference the Wii MotionPlus addon to the controller helped with the coordination. The Archery was much

Lit. Angels #10 – Harry Potter Podcast of Awesomeness

Last Thursday was the Lit. Angels 10th podcast.  For such a special occassion, we decided to host an extra special podcast.  With Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince recently hitting theaters we decided to make episode 10, the Harry Potter Podcast of Awesomeness.  We took the time to discuss everything Harry Potter (both books and film); touching a bit on what makes them so fun, so popular and so controversial.  There was a lot of just random Harry Potter conversation between Stealthyslyth and I, and in the end we gave a way the newest HP game for the Wii to one of our chat room participants and listener – ‘mystic_notions’.  You can hear the whole episode here: Unfortunately, we had some phone/program issues at the very end as I tried to give away the game prize!  Forgive me, and we’ll be back again next week (August 6th), same time, same

    The Sims 3: A Review

Genre: Simulation Rating: T (for Teen) Publisher: Electronic Arts System: PC / Mac Release Date: June 2, 2009 BUY It’s no secret amongst regular GA’ers, that I am a huge fan of The Sims franchise, and that I was beside myself with anticipation for The Sims 3 release.  I’ve been playing pretty steadily since I came home from E3, and trying to think of all the ways I could do a review of the game, and do it justice.  I mean, you can read any old review about the game anywhere, and to be honest, most of the big stuff you’d want to know about the game was on websites everywhere before it even came out. However, let me say what I said elsewhere at a Sims forum I’m a member of (yes, I really do like The Sims that much): “After playing The Sims 3 steadily for about a

Ubisoft feels that “DS is declining quickly”

While the DS was selling strong for publishers of casual software, this is changing quickly. For example, Ubisoft suffered a 67% drop in DS software sales over the last year. “The DS is declining quickly,” boss Yves Guillemot stated. “The casual business is changing rapidly and we have to reinvent it this year. We already have a big shift from DS to Wii this year and it will continue with the Wii and Xbox 360 new camera next year.

“What we are seeing in Europe, especially on the DS, is that the piracy is strong so we are working to put new figurines and new elements in the box that will change that for the future. “But in the short-term it’s affecting us. For example in Europe we have the same market share on DS as last year, so it’s really the market which is declining. Retail, because of that,
