No, they don’t. Just because the audio on the Concert DVD is a pre-recording, that does not mean that they lipsynch. Sometimes, the mixers choose to not use the live audio, for some reason. And Koharu is a different story, because… I don’t know, for sure (like everyone-else), but she has been singing live much more often (though, she usually sings live, when performing with others; usually is not live, when it comes to Kirarin).

And background vocals do not count (where they have the recorded vocals as well as the live vocals).
Even though H!P rarely does that. XD

To Danielle: Not really no. Morning Musume rarely lip synchs. 90% of the time they are live. As for the salaries….they aren’t even close to millions. Japanese stars do not make the ungodly amounts that American ones do. Especially not MM who are not that popular these days in Japan.

It`s true. Morning Musume very very rarely lipsyncs at concerts, and their choreography is every bit as athletic as american pop artists.

Danielle, the only times these girls are forced to lip-sync is either when they are too sick to hit/carry certain notes or at large arenas where the acoustics are poor and the noise of the crowd drowns out their voices. Say what you want about american music artists but I think there are very few who have nearly as hectic and overflowing schedules. They work long and hard but never let their success get the better of them and change who they are and that, I believe, is a big reason for why they are so loved.

Broadway performers do the same thing– doing difficult dances while singing– nine shows a week every week of the year. So MM might be one of the hardest working groups in the POP world, but there are other elements to show business. Just sayin’

Just IMHO, they don’t get to be that hardworking. They aren’t very popular anymore and their agency is crap at getting them jobs, so they don’t really get much work outside of releasing singles, concerts and radio shows. In contrast there are other idols (this also applies to earlier, golden age MM) that appear in movies, dramas, regular variety shows, at events and as supporters, etc. on top of all the stuff that they do the same as MM.

Danielle, This was the first time I have seen them live. They did sing and dance to a track (no band on stage) but I could hear them over the music. I mean I guess it’s possible that they lip sync but to me, they seemed to be working their butts off!

I’ve been into Morning Musume for only a few months now and they are the bomb!! They don’t go around acting out of control for headline news like U.S artists do and that’s what makes Morning Musume better. They are very humble and mature. I love them and hope that they do tour America. I hope they visit Hawaii again too so I can get a chance to see them

Performers in the US make millions of dollars for their pop sounds and often justify lip syncing due to the choreography.

So does Morning Musume. Duh. They lip synch too sometimes.
