We are Wizards celebrates Harry Potter fans
We are Wizards is a documentary not about Harry Potter, but about the fans of Harry Potter. In many ways it’s a celebration and a look as to what the Harry Potter phenomenon has created. The film looks at the book, music, animation, and careers all of which have come from people being a fan of the world J.K. Rowling created.
The film starts with a look at the music scene it has created, Wizard Rock. There are over 600 bands in the genre but the bands featured are Harry and the Potters and Draco and the Malfoys. In the film the members go over how the band was created and the impact it has had on their lives. A band is featured with two little boys that scream and yell about being a dragon.
We’re also introduced to Melissa Anelli, an author who is also the founder of the The Leaky Cauldron. Brad Neely, a comic book artist did an unathorized spoof of Harry Potter.
At times the movie does make the fans look pretty obsessed. But at the bottom of each of these stories is a lot of love. Harry Potter is the book and film that has sold millions but has also allowed these fans and many others to find their creative side. The documentary is well done and the people highlighted are each fascinating in their own way. Throughout you can see brothers, friends, and strangers grow closer together all because they are fans of Harry Potter.
