Zachary Quinto and Stride Gum launch “Save the Arcades”

Zachary Quinto joined STRIDE today at Video West Arcade in Glendale, CA to launch the “Save the Arcades” campaign. The campaign starts today and is focused on keeping arcades open. Arcades these days are struggling to stay open and many are starting to close their doors. For the campaign, there are four iconic arcades from around the country vying for $25,000 at www.savethearcades.com. On the website, visitors can play an arcade style video game and donate their points to the arcade of their choice. What can you do to help? Visit the website and play and then go and visit your local arcade. Zachary is a long time fan of arcades and played with employees and local gamers at Video West Arcade. Outside of the competition, STRIDE donated $10,000 to help a Philadelphia-area arcade stay in business. [photos from Albert L. Ortega]

    Zombie Tycoon For PSPGo

One of the first titles announced for the new PSP “Minis” catalogue on the Playstation Store, Zombie Tycoon lets humans discover if they have what it takes to build an army of the living dead and take over the world. The announcement was made today at GamesCon in Germany by Canadian developer Frima Studio. A completely new twist on the tycoon genre, Frima’s CEO Steve Couture hopes that gamers will find new-found respect for zombie-kind. “It is about time for humans to try to understand what it feels like to be a zombie. By putting a humorous zombie army in the player’s control and by having funny items to arm those zombies with, we hope to show the lighter side of the classic zombie genre and the subtleness of zombies’ personality…” – Steve Couture Visit ZombieTycoon’s website to check out the trailer and get other updates.

First Look: King of Fighters XII

Platform: PS3 Rating: T (for Teen) Publisher: SNK Playmore / Ignition Entertainment Release Date: 7/28/2009 Genre: Fighter King of Fighters XII brings the 15 year franchise a few additions for it’s anniversary.  The KOF series has always been a pretty standard fighting game, and XII is no different.  There’s still a light and heavy punch, and light and heavy kick, with the majority of the moves your characters pull-off controlled by the D-pad/joystick.  There’s a 3 on 3 team play style that lets you play with multiple characters throughout one round, versus the one against one style of most fighting games. This update to the series has undergone some series graphic upgrades.  Each 2D sprite took over a year to render, which means we get some pretty amazing looking characters in HD.  Since this is still a 2D fighting game, the way it looks is pretty important, and this looks
