    Oni Press announces PAX plans

    Gaming companies aren’t the only ones making plans for Penny Arcade Expo next week. Oni Press will be there at booth #3004 with the ability for you to support Child’s Play, enjoy your favorite game and buy some independent comics! Oni Press creator Lars Brown will be on hand to sign copies of North Wind volumes 1 & 2. He’ll have North Wind t-shirts, buttons and original sketches. Premiering at PAX is the new Scott Pilgrim poster which is an homage to the classic 1997 Capcom poster for Gem Fighter. Scott Pilgrim creator, Bryan Lee O’Malley has asked that 100% of the poster proceeds earned at PAX 2009 will be donated directly to Child’s Play. So get some awesome art and support a great cause!     Fox and Sony TV to revive “Heathers”

    “What is your damage Heather?” Words that my friends and I used all through our Junior High years because we loved..no obsessed over a little movie called Heathers. Heathers was not a theater hit, but it has since been a major cult classic and one of my favorite movies of all time. In the movie, Veronica gets mixed up with a rebel, J.D. while being part of a clique of mean girls all named Heather. Veronica and J.D. end up covering up the Heathers’ accidental deaths by faking them as suicides. Now like all wonderful things in my childhood, Heathers is getting a remake. The dark comedy will be adapted for TV this time around. Mark Rizzo is still in the ideas phase trying to plan how to update Heathers, 20 years after the film.     Casual game based on The Fixer Upper coming

    The Fixer Upper by New York Times bestselling author Mary Kay Andews, is getting the casual game treatment. The game, “Mary Kay Andrews: The Fixer Upper” is expected to release in time for the holiday season in December 2009. “Watching my characters and stories being spun into a casual game for my fans to continue to enjoy in their leisure time is an amazing experience,” said Mary Kay Andrews. “Digi Ronin is the best possible gaming company to design such a project, and I can’t wait to play the game along with my fans.” The story will be changed to a hidden object game featuring over 20 scenes from the book and over 10 mini-games.     Champions Online deals are open again

    You know the Champions Online deal that we told you the other day had to be ended early? The lifetime and six-monthly subscriptions were so popular that the deal had to be ended because it “sold out”. Well after fan outcry, Cryptic has confirmed that both deals are open again until 11:59 PST on August 31. The game launches next Tuesday in the US and with the deal, a lifetime subscription is only $199.99 and a 6 month subscription is $59.99.     Command & Conquer 4 named Tiberian Twilight

    EA Los Angeles has announced the official name for Command & Conquer 4. The title is scheduled for a 2010 release and they let the fans choose the next title. Command & Conquer 4 Tiberian Twilight was chosen by more than 15,000 fans submitting ideas and voting. “Our sophisticated fans are a tremendous community with a great love for the series. We really wanted to involve them in Command &Conquer 4 – what better way than to have them create the title?” said Mike Glosecki, Lead Producer on Command & Conquer 4 at EA Los Angeles. “We were blown away by all the creative names they came up with but the most popular selection, Tiberian Twilight, seemed the best fit, embodying that the saga is coming to a powerful and epic conclusion.” Someone may have been inspired by a certain series about vampires.     Film Director tries to get Gamers Documentary on tv

    Ben Gonyo has worked for a year on a documentary about gamers. Now he wants to take that documentary and translate it into a tv series. But he’s looking for your help to do that. There is a petition at http://www.gamersfilm.com for the film to be submitted to major networks. GAMERS focuses on the MMO lifestyle. From BlizzCon to interviews with dedicated players, Gonyo has caught many glimpses at a gamer’s lifestyle. There will be guest appearances on the show as well. Jay Mohr recalls the first time he hosted BlizzCon, Curt Schilling discusses his $30 million mmo project, and Jeff Kaplan explains building the game play of World of Warcraft.     Job losses at EA Maxis

    A Twitter yesterday mentioned about job losses at EA Maxis studio, and now we have confirmation that there has been layoffs. EA’s Maxis studio is responsible for the Sims franchise and Spore. “Often in the video game industry, the size of a studio fluctuates in response to business conditions,” Shacknews was told by Electronic Arts in a prepared statement. “In this case, EA has taken action to reduce the workforce at Maxis as we focus the business and focus Maxis.” We don’t know how many staff were cut.     New Halo 3:ODST videos

    A bunch of Halo 3: ODST trailers came out today including a ViDoc which show the new cooperative multilplayer mode. Sgt. Avery Johnson offers a detailed look at Firefight in the Vidoc.
