Razer headphones a great find at Blizzcon

Being someone who chats on Skype and talks in vent quite a bit for WoW, I tend to get a lot of uses out of a headset. And I need something that will be comfortable to wear for when I have to do a four hour (or longer) raid, sit in on a meeting or record a podcast for Lit Angels. So when I first put on the headset that accompanied the game demos at Blizzcon, I was in awe with how comfortable they were and decided to do some investigating into where I could acquire said headphones.

From the logo on the side I immediately recgonized that they were by Razer, makers of gaming accessories for PC gamers. So I made a point to stop by the Razer booth on the show floor to see which headphones these were. As it turns out they were either the Megalodon 7.1 surround sound headphones or the Carcharias gaming headset. With the surround sound of the Megalodon, Razer says that “you’ll be able to hear your enemies before you see them.” It also features an onboard audio processing unit that helps to take demand off of your CPU. On the other hand the Carcharias is about the same except for the surround sound and onboard audio processing unit, and it’s also about $70 cheaper than the Megalodon.

I was sad that I was only able to briefly experience what these headphones have to offer. The biggest thing that stands out to me was how comfortable they were. I’d love to check out one of them in the future to see how well it handles a raid.

Edit: The price on the Megalodon 7.1 Surround Sound headphones is $149.99.
The price on Carcharias gaming headset is $79.99.

I called Razer today. Im trying to get a set sent to the store... but for testing they arent very practical (too damn expensive) for leaving out on the floor. Looking at having them in an acrylic case or something similar and testing them. Although they will need to be broken in for about 10 hours on progressive volume inclines. We shall see how it goes. ^^

I know the Razer series of gaming equipment is amazing -pets Diamondback mouse- but lately Logitech have been attacking the gaming market pretty heavily too. How would the Megalodon hold against the G35 headset? I could probably order a few in if i knew how good they were or had enough decent feedback to discredit the G35's and push the Razer series. With that though, i have the G35', as does 2 of my workmates and they find it to be amazing for every possible reason. Again, it doesnt work with the 360 or the PS3, but gaming headsets have a slightly more complex interface then a simple plug and play specific headset.

I'm not sure how different they are or which one is better, but testing them out against each other would be great to do!

I asked about that and right now it's only PCs until they can work out something with Microsoft. I know Trina was hoping they'd work for the 360.
