Resident Evil 5 in 3D on PC
Tweet
Before San Diego Comic Con, Capcom invited us to take a look at Resident Evil 5 on the PC. We were in for a treat though because it combined the greatness of killing zombies with 3D actions. That’s right, Capcom is the latest to work with Nvidia to incorporate their API into their game. Capcom is currently working on taking that 3D technology to the next level by adding outer screen affects to the current depth affects. Capcom is the first game company to do this.
First we put on the Nvidia goggles and watch Capcom take us through the demo. First thing I notice is how comfortable the glasses are. I have to wear them over my glasses and had no problems. The 3D affect adds to the gaming experience without the headache that 3D used to cause. I can only imagine how terrifying the game will get when zombies will be able to throw stuff at you.
To run the 3D mode of Resident Evil 5 gamers will need a 120hz monitor. Otherwise the specs are pretty low and it will work on most machines.
Resident Evil 5 on the PC is not just for gamers that haven’t played it yet. If you have already played through Resident Evil 5, you may still want to pick this up as it will have “different enough” new content. Unfortunately no further details on what that is.
A really cool feature of Resident Evil 5 on the PC is how smooth the transition is switching between controller or keyboard. Gamers can even switch in the middle of the game without having to go back to options or exit out of the game.
Capcom has attributes a framework engine that they use to allow a smooth transition from console development to PC. This allows for a quicker PC version without it being a “crappy port”.
Resident Evil 5 is set for a PC release Fall 2009. Capcom spoke so highly of Nvidia’s support and work on this project that we interviewed them about their 3D technology. Look for that interview coming soon on GamingAngels.com.
