Guest Article: The Post PAX Awards

The Post-PAX Awards This year, from September 4-6, I attended my very first Penny Arcade Expo up in Seattle. I didn’t really know what to expect, so I did my research, looked up videos, read articles about the past years’ conventions, but I still was like, “oh my god, there are gonna be 60,000 other nerds there, this is going to be a MADHOUSE.” Of course, because I’m prescient (superpowers, yo), I was right, and it was a madhouse, but it was also AWESOME. Basically, for those of you who have never been or don’t care about PAX but are still reading this, the Penny Arcade Expo is a ridiculous video game convention, where companies bring their sweet new stuff to show it off, and gamers get super psyched about it and get free t-shirts and posters and buttons and various other swag. It’s a great opportunity for game developers

    Magic: the Gathering: Planechase

Earlier this month, Magic: the Gathering released the newest expansion of the popular trading card game. Planechase is a set of 4 different decks, each coming with a ready-to-play 60-card deck and 10 of the 40 planes cards. Sure, all players are used to new expansions and new decks, but the plane cards add a new element to already fun gameplay. There is a special die that is included with the set. Four sides are blank, one side has the Planeswalker logo, and the last side has the Chaos symbol. Players may either use their own 10-card deck that came with their set or a modified one from multiple sets or they may decide to use one communal deck with all or most of the planes. At the start of the game, the first player flips over the top plane card. This can either be something useful like Goldmeadow which

Warner Bros. is celebrating 70 years in a big way with events in Elf Island, a charity event that would drive Carrie Bradshaw crazy and the 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition. Let’s talk events first. Elf Island (www.elfisland.com) is a virtual world where kids can play games that cause good to happen in the real world and now through the end of the year Elf Island will be partnering with Warner Bros. to celebrate the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz. Christmas Carol premier to be held in London

The World Premier of Disney’s A Christmas Carol will be held in London on November 3, 2009. The festival will have a coordinated Christmas lights switch-on, on Regent and Oxford Streets, plus other festivities in the City of London. “In the spirit of Charles Dickens himself, we’re bringing together three of London’s richest holiday traditions in an unprecedented city-wide—or rather a worldwide—celebration,” said Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “We’re expecting record-breaking attendance at the festivities, which will launch the holiday season, showcase our movie and celebrate the writer who, with the publication of ‘A Christmas Carol’ in 1843, virtually reinvented Christmas.” Jim Carrey, Colin Firth, Robin Wright Penn, Bob Hoskins and director Robert Zemeckis will all be taking part in the celebration. Leicester Square will have Christmas carolers in period costumes, falling snow and live entertainment. Disney will also be making a donation to the Great Ormond

More information about Epic Mickey will be in next Game Informer

The most recent edition of Game Informer teases that there may be a reveal of Epic Mickey in the next issue of the magazine. The page shows Mickey’s head with a message which says, “Something EPIC is brewing”. Epic Mickey is a title that people have been talking about since the concept art has been released. It’s like Disney meets steampunk and might focus on old/forgotten characters that wish to take revenge against Mickey. We have no real information on the title that Warren Spector and Junction Point have been working on. I attempted to ask Disney Interactive reps about the title at D23 Expo only to get a “that would be cool”. But no real information or acknowledgment of the title. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon are all back and filming in New York. “It’s a great privilege to be spending time again with this beloved cast and crew and to be filming in New York City,” says Parker. “We look forward to the next few months of this adventure.” Sex and the City 2 reunites the original creative team from the series and they all seem pretty excited to move forward on the project. States King, “We are thrilled to have the luxury to continue to tell the story of these four iconic women characters: Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha.
