Meet the GamingAngels – Yukino

By: Yukino

crazy-bag-ladyWhere oh where to begin….

A long long time ago, in a country that is cold & disgusting to live in for about 8 months every year, I was born. I had a grade 5 reading level by the time I started grade two, played my first computer game (Oregon Trail) on the green screened Apples in my elementary school library, and can thankfully say that even though I have had several opportunities to, I have never (yet) thrown a controller into a TV or wall.

We had an Atari 2600 when I was a kid. My first game console. I played Q-Bert, Galaga and Dark Chambers religiously. I don’t remember what ever happened to it….. From there I played systems like the NES, SNES and Genesis at my cousins’ place. We did get a couple of the original GameBoys when I was younger as well. I loved Tetris and Wario.

Then there was a long dark tea time for my soul, one that did not include video games. But around 2000 I came back, having a great time with the PS2 and Xbox when they launched. Finished my first Final Fantasy game (9, which is still my favourite to this day) and fell in love with the Dreamcast. Poor little guy barely had a chance!

angels-at-coin-op-party-2008I met Trina through Sony’s Gamer Advisory Panel, a glorified focus group for the electronics giant. We were some of the very few active females in the panel at the time. I got to crash with her for a couple nights after the first E4All event in Los Angeles. During the second (and final) E4All event, Trina and Elizabeth spoke to me about joining GamingAngels.

I have some very grandiose plans and daydreams about the future of GamingAngels, and I will make them happen. My biggest goal for the next year is to impress upon and show gaming companies and advertisers that they are missing a huge opportunity by continuing to focus so much on the male market. This community is proof that women love games and gadgets just as much as we love books and other media formats. All we ask is to be seen as equals in this field and be treated with more respect than we are given. We are a force to be reckoned with.

I love my fellow GamingAngels and this wonderful community so much!

YUUUUUKIIIIIII!I was an early reader, as well. I blame my mom (lol), since she was the one who read awesome bedtime stories to me. I got to the point of just wanting to read them for myself.I miss the old GGB (aka gray game boy, or Giant Gray Brick). I still have all of my original gameboy games (oooOOOOoooh, 5 whole games!), so I was slightly horrified when I found out the DS wouldn't play them.Great Douglas Adams reference!Hmm. I might change my signature to one...-There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying.

I didn't learn from flash cards. My mom actually started teaching me when I was three. I recall doing storytime in kindergarten because the teacher was amazed I could read, and she thought it was good for the other students.Yeah, my cat Canuck was a special one. She didn't like me very much, so she avoided me a lot. I was pretty sad when we had to give her up. (Mom found out she had pet dander allergies.)

What a pretty picture that first one is. :)ETA: I was also a really early reader. I started in the fifth grade reading class when I started school, because it was all they could offer those of us that knew what we were doing at the time. Whatever they did it worked. Were your parents flashcard people? That's how my mom taught me to read so early.
