NYComic Con and BigApple Con duke it out

StealthySlyth just got back from her trip at Big Apple Comic Con and wrote about her experience here. Con season is awesome but not when you have to choose between two conflicting cons. Next year’s con goers in New York will have to do just that. The save the date for next year announced at Big Apple Con is set for October 7-10, 2010. That is the same weekend as New York Comic Con which has been scheduled since February. Looks like Wizard wants to go head to head with New York Comic Con and see who wins. This isn’t just about which con will attendees pick, but also vendors. A “con war” happens as companies have to choose which con they will attend. But in a recent interview with CBR, NYCC’s Lance Fensterman has the attitude to face the challenge. “I think it’s great. It’ll be wonderful for the

First Look – Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles

There are a few zombie rail shooters for the Wii, and Capcom is adding one more to the list with Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, set for a Wii release on November 17. The Darkside Chronicles is definitely a new experience in the Resident Evil series. The demo I played was the new South American level first revealed at Tokyo Game Show. The demo united Leon Kennedy and Jack Krauser as partners. The game itself is the sequel to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and does include favorite Resident Evil characters, Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield. The on-rail, arcade shooter has a controlled camera system that takes the player through the story. The background contains items that are destructible and can get you unique items. Players can interact with backgrounds and will have plenty of undead to kill. There is an extensive weapons system with heavier weapons needed for later

    Movie Review: Astro Boy

I was recently able to go see a screening of the new Astro Boy movie that is being released later this week. I initially did have some reservations as I wasn’t sure how they were going to treat the original storyline, but I have to admit I was a bit surprised and enjoyed myself. Warning: Spoilers below in case you’re not familiar with Astro Boy. For the most part the storyline is similar to the original from the manga/animated series.  Dr Tenma (Nicholas Cage) loses his son Toby (Freddie Highmore) in a tragic accident. While grieving he builds a robot with the same likeness as his son and implants his son’s memories. After realizing that this new son just can’t replace what he lost, Tenma vents to his friend Dr Elefun (Bill Nighy) and his son overhears the discussion. Feeling lost and heartbroken, Toby leaves his father to go and

    Big Apple Comic Con 2009

This year was my first year attending Big Apple Comic Con (BACC), and I honestly had no idea what to expect. After looking over the guest list the fangirl inside got pretty excited! A few of the stars from Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek caught my eye, and I planned out to make sure to at least go by them in the autograph area if I couldn’t make the panels. As per usual for me, my first day at the con was on Saturday, and man was it busy. Getting in to the con seemed a bit disorganized as you had to enter one building to get to registration, then exit and go over to another for the main floor with a bare minimum of signs, but I made it in and began to roam the main floor. One of the first areas I saw was the massive booth that

Blood Energy Potion for all you tired vampires out there

Perhaps the Vampire fandom is out of control when products like this are being made. Blood Energy Potion is a synthetic blood beverage that provides a shot of energy. Served in a transfusion style bag, the energy shot has the same color, look and consistency as the real thing. “If you’re suffering from Bloodlust, it’s important to remember that you are not alone,” said Aaron Rasmussen, co-founder and vice president of marketing, Harcos. “We created Blood Energy Potion to help control the symptoms of Bloodlust so you can get back to your non-life without worrying about the fate of your loved ones when those hunger pangs strike.” The company behind Blood Energy Potion are the same gamer geeks that brought us Mana Energy Potion. They say that the potion is fruit-punch flavored and provides up to four hours of energy. The transfusion bag is re-sealable for “Vampirism on the go”.

Three Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals win a Gameroom Makeover

Awhile back we spoke about the Xbox 360 and Children’s Miracle Network campaign to give the top three voted hospitals a full game center makeover. The contest took place from September 3 and October 16 and during that time, 12 million votes were cast. “It has been inspiring to see communities rally behind their local Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, encouraging friends and neighbors to go online and show their support by placing a vote,” said Brian Hazelgren, chief development officer, Children’s Miracle Network. “We are hopeful that participants in the contest will continue to demonstrate their support by giving a dollar or two to Children’s Miracle Network when they can to help save and improve the lives of children in their community.” The winning hospitals are: Hurley Medical Center, University of Iowa Children’s Hospital and Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. They each
