Australian lobbyist group outraged at Modern Warfare 2

Our poor Australian readers have to fight for every game they want to play lately. An Australian lobbyist group is demanding for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to be reclassified after they found out gamers can play as a terrorist in the game.

The Australian Council on Children and the Media is demanding the Australian Government to revise Modern Warfare 2′s rating of MA 15+ after leaked gameplay footage showed a player gunning down civilians in an airport.

Council president Jane Roberts spoke to the Syndey Morning Herald, saying that:

“The consequences of terrorism are just abhorrent in our community and yet here we are with a product that’s meant to be passed off as a leisure time activity, actually promoting what most world leaders speak out publicly against.

“If that material was on the internet about how to become a terrorist, how to join a group and how to wipe out people – that would be removed because it would not be acceptable.”

I wonder if movies that contain terrorist scenes get the same treatment.

This is actually a really good thing I think. This will piss off way more people than the L4D2 RC did and then people might get angry enough to get stuff started.Movies DON'T get anywhere near the same treatment. Neither does porn. (Yes, we've been watching what's been getting classified as what. Lots of porn, no l4d2 thats not edited to shit)Ultimately, it's ONE person in South Australia who makes the final decision and it depends who does what at what time, I doubt MF2 will be reviewed because of it's mass promotion with all the retailers, well I hope so anyway.

I feel for the Australian gamers. I thought our standards were strict at times though they most certainly have to fight a harsher fight than we do in America. It honestly worries me how close-minded certain individuals have to be to go to such extents after witnessing a few minutes of gameplay footage. I would like to think higher of the human race and that we would be able to teach others about fiction instead of moving immediately to ratings reclassification. This is simply depressing.
