First Look – Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles

ResidentEvil Darkside Chronicles

There are a few zombie rail shooters for the Wii, and Capcom is adding one more to the list with Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, set for a Wii release on November 17. The Darkside Chronicles is definitely a new experience in the Resident Evil series.

The demo I played was the new South American level first revealed at Tokyo Game Show. The demo united Leon Kennedy and Jack Krauser as partners. The game itself is the sequel to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and does include favorite Resident Evil characters, Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield.

The on-rail, arcade shooter has a controlled camera system that takes the player through the story. The background contains items that are destructible and can get you unique items. Players can interact with backgrounds and will have plenty of undead to kill. There is an extensive weapons system with heavier weapons needed for later in the game.

The title also has a competitive edge to it. At the end of each “chapter” players are given their stats to compare and those stats will be uploaded to leaderboards. Players are given extra bonuses for headshots.

For the doubters, the Wii title is able to re-create the creepiness factor that is expected of a Resident Evil title. I thought the controls worked very well and the story was intriguing. In the demo, I played co-op for a couple of levels or memories, not wanting to put it down. More than that, Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles is a blast to play. Can you say, I want it now?

Thanks for giving this title some spotlight.Resident Evil has been one of my favorite series and I've been following this title quite closely where I can.I most certainly was not familiar with the teaming up of Jack and Leon. I most certainly have to give it to Capcom for using these titles as a way to provide depth andexplore further into the RE universe instead of simply going off on random, no where storylines. I most certainly will be getting this title (hopefully with a new Nerf N-Strike 2.0) XDThanks again, GA!
