Peli’s “Area 51″ Starts Production Next Week
Paramount is still in trying to get Oren Peli’s low budget supernatural thriller Paranormal Activity in theaters across the US if the Eventful.com can hit 1million. And already, news is out acknowledging Peli’s next project Area 51, which is set to start production next week.
Area 51, like Paranormal Activity, will take advantage of the “found footage” narrative strategy centering around three teenagers whose curiosity leads them to the legendary and mysterious Area51 Air Force base deep in the Nevada desert. Additional details beyond that have not been revealed.
“I’d rather not say anything about Area 51 except that I am very pleased to be working with the same team who have stood by me for the two or three years it took Paranormal Activity to get into theaters,” Peli said.
The new film will also follow in Paranormal’s footsteps and use undiscovered actors, but he will have the luxury of a significantly larger budget than the $11,000 he spent creating Paranormal Activity.
There is no word on a release date, it’s likely we’ll hear more about it in 2010.
