    Community Cup Challenge Prep

    As you guys all know from my little post here, I’m participating in the Magic: the Gathering Online Community Cup Challenge at the Wizards of the Coast headquarters in Renton, Washington. I’ve been really nervous and really excited about this from the moment I was asked if I wanted to go for GamingAngels. I’ve since learned that not only am I the youngest competitor on both teams, the second youngest having 4 years on me, but I’m the only female on the community team. There are three amazing women on the opposing team that I’m really looking forward to meeting. I’ve been doing a lot of prepping to get ready for this.     2010 Independent Games Festival receives record amount of entries

    It’s a great time for innovation and creativity! The Organizers for the 12th Annual Independent Games Festival announced that they have received a record number of entries for the 2010 contest. So far there are 306 titles slated for the main competition, with 150 judges that have to play each one. The finalists will be announced in January and the winner will be announced at GDC in March. The eight major awards to be won are: Seumas McNally Grand Prize ($20,000) Excellence In Visual Art ($2,500) Excellence In Audio ($2,500) Excellence in Design ($2,500) Nuovo Award ($2,500) Technical Excellence ($2,500) Audience Award ($2,500) Direct2Drive Award (TBA) See information on all the entries here.     Activision teams up with researcher for education initiative

    Activision is making the move to help parents and teachers learn more about their child’s experience in gaming. They are teaming up with Dr. Cheryl Olson, the co-director for the Center for Mental Health and Media at Massachusetts General Hospital to educate consumers. The “Ratings Are Not A Game” initiative focuses on educating consumers about The Entertainment Software Rating Board’s rating system so that parents can make informed decisions about the games their children play. “Activision is committed to providing consumers with guidelines and information to help them determine which video games are most appropriate for their families,” said Mike Griffith, president and CEO of Activision Publishing. “We are proud to partner with Dr. Olson and believe that these videos will be informative and useful tools for families.” Activision is working with Dr. Olson to create seven videos that help give tips.     Major League Gaming comes to Anaheim Convention Center this weekend

    Major League Gaming is coming to the Anaheim Convention Center this weekend from November 6-8. The world’s top pros, our GamerBeauties, and many spectators will be watching and playing over the busy three days. Admission to the events is $20 for all three days and fans can interact with “Play-a-Pro” matches, watch matches and be there for live broadcasts. I highly recommend going and cheering on GamerBeauties as well! We’ll be documenting their progress through the competition and would love to talk to other women competing.     November Movies at Viz Cinemas

    There are two new movies playing at Viz Cinemas this month for those of you lucky enough to live in San Francisco. Sad Vacation (seen beside) will be playing from the 6th to the 19th of the month. Award-winning director Shinji Aoyama, known for Eureka(2000), completes his cinematic trilogy set in his hometown of Kitakyushu with a powerful tale of family karma. Kenji (Tadanobu Asano) makes his living coordinating smuggling from China and carries the pain of his father’s suicide and being abandoned by his mother while still a child.     Magic: the Gathering Online Community Cup Challenge

    Hey everyone. Just a little announcement about something super exciting that’s going on Thursday and Friday this week. It’s called the Magic: the Gathering Online Community Cup Challenge. The basics of it are: 4 press members and 4 online community leaders face off against 8 of the Wizards of the Coast staff members in 4 different online play formats. The formats are: 100 card singleton, a standard constructed, and two drafts, Zendikar and Invasion. It will be held at the Wizards of the Coast headquarters in Renton, WA. for almost the entire two days. If Wizards staff wins, the community will get a free promo card online, but if the Community wins, the community will get a special avatar and access to awesome events online. And guess what?     Left 4 Dead 2 demo open to almost all

    Valve has announced that now more gamers can try out the Left 4 Dead 2 demo. The demo is now available to all PC gamers and all Xbox Live Gold members. The demo features “The Parish” campaign set in New Orleans French Quarter. It’s playable from 1-4 players local or online. Left 4 Dead 2 is set to release on November 17.

    Miyamoto teases Nintendo Cats game

    see more Lolcats and funny pictures Nintendo boss Shigeru Miyamoto has been denying a Nintendo cats-based game since Nintendogs. But it looks like recently in an investor Q&A session he may have dropped a subtle hint that he may be working on a cat game. The full transcript is posted here in Japanese. Miyamoto said, “Also, I’ve recently been caring for cats. That is all.” Nintendo president Satoru Iwata added: “He just gave a big hint.” Oh Miyamoto teases!
