    Happy Birthday World of Warcraft!

Today we celebrate five years of World of Warcraft. WoW first came onto the scene during a time when MMO players were the hardcore gamers, but Blizzard developed a game that would bring in the more casual player along with the hardcore.  Since Nov 23, 2004 there have been many patches, raid bosses, gear, dailies and faction grinds and WoW is just as popular as ever. Granted I started playing during the Burning Crusade expansion, my guildmates who have been around since the beginning have told me about the “old days” and what it was like trying to do one of the 40-man raids. How much different leveling was back then, and how “kids these days have it easy!” I was interested in it back when it first came out, but after hearing about that $15/month subscription and how much time had to be put into the game, well my

AOL previews a Brand Makeover for it’s future

Yesterday, AOL revealed a preview of it’s new brand identify for the future. To be honest…not exactly sure what it means. The new AOL brand is basically a simple logo with images that change underneath. The new identity will be revealed on December 10 when AOL stock begins trading on the NYSE. “Our new identity is uniquely dynamic. Our business is focused on creating world-class experiences for consumers and AOL is centered on creative and talented people – employees, partners, and advertisers. We have a clear strategy that we are passionate about and we plan on standing behind the AOL brand as we take the company into the next decade,” said Tim Armstrong, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AOL. In the designer’s opinion the new brand identity has an open feel and is aspirational. What we can notice is that the capitalized AOL is now changed to the Aol

Undead Labs to create console-based Zombie MMO

Zombies are kindof a big deal. It seems that any book, movie, or video game that features zombies is an instant hit. Well that is what industry Veteran Jeff Strain is banking on with his new development studio, Undead Labs in Seattle. The studio’s sole focus will be on creating a massively multiplayer online zombie game for console gamers. Strain knows the mmo space as he left NCsoft last summer to create Undead Labs. He also worked at Blizzard Entertainment on Starcraft and Diablo. “Every time I see a good zombie movie with friends, we spend days debating our strategies for surviving the zombie apocalypse,” said Strain. “The police station, or the supermarket? Garden rake, or staple gun? Bach, or the White Stripes? I’m a game developer, so I’d probably be useless for anything other than ghoul bait, but I’m excited to have the opportunity to build an MMOZ that

Nintendo is very popular with UK Games and even with brand new titles on the top 20, none of them were powerful enough to take down the reign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The Infinity Ward title continues to hold onto the number one spot making us only guess at how much money it’s brought in to date. Assassin’s Creed II entered in the number 2 spot followed by New Super Mario Bros. Wii (3), Wii Sports Resort (4), and Wii Fit Plus (5). Zombie killing, Left 4 Dead 2 entered the countdown at number 7. The top publisher this week is Nintendo with 5 games, but EA is right behind them with 4. Follow
