Fox News already discussing Modern Warfare 2

Modern Warfare 2

Modern Warfare 2

Fox News with their “Fair and Balanced Reporting” already had a segment on this morning regarding Modern Warfare 2. Of course the only part of the game they discussed was the part where the gamer plays a terrorist.

Special guests that were on the show were Jon Christensen of Slash Gamer and Jim Steyer, CEO of Common Sense Media.

In the show, Jon and Jim go back and forth with the Fox hosts completely ignoring the fact that it’s a Mature game not intended for gamers under 17 saying:
“You bring a violent game into a house with an 8 year old, nothing to stop that kid from playing it and becoming a terrorist…on a video game.”

A bit tame for Fox News, but not surprising that they were on it so fast. Poor Jon Christensen who appears to have given up hope by the end.

Wow, as much as Jon was stumbling over his own words they didn't even let him state his case on the subject. I think they're focusing too much on the terrorist part. It is one level, where like Jon said, you are a CIA operative infiltrating a terrorist cell.It all boils down to a parents responsibility. Retailers (and I know from experience since I worked launch day) are required to ask for ID and are not allowed by law to sell the game to anyone under 17. The parents that let the younger generation play these games are the ones that hold the power. Not to mention there is a setting at the beginning of the game where you can actually opt out of playing the terrorist mission. As you start up the game a warning pops up that mentions there may be some controversial content in the game and you are given the choice to either play these levels or remove them from your gaming experience.I'm a strong believer in 'Violent video games do NOT make violent people.' I invite anyone to watch the episode of Penn and Tellers Bullsh!t on the subject, it was a great episode and brings up some very viable facts that contradict the theory that violent video games make our children violent.

This video has actually successfully upset me. This was probably one of the worst one-sided interviews I've ever seen, and also, no offense to Jon, but, he really did a terrible job in that interview. None the less, seriously...
