New josei manga out from VIZ!

What is ‘josei‘ I hear you ask. Well the word itself is said to translate as “women”, but in the comic world it is used to describe the audience it is aimed at. Primarily, josei manga is aimed at ladies in their late teens to ladies in adulthood. Now, what has VIZ got in store for us? On the 1st of December, they released a new manga under the Shojo Beat imprint named “BUTTERFLIES, FLOWERS”. The story follows Choko Kuze, the daughter of a dignified family who went bankrupt. She takes a job at a real-estate company as an entry-level office worker, but she soon finds her boss is much harder on her than any of her workmates. GameStop and Payless shoes team up in promotional offer

While I applaud GameStop for thinking outside of the box, this may be the most random pairing for a cross promotional offer that I have ever heard of. GameStop is teaming up with Payless ShoeSource where customers will get coupons at checkout for the other store. The promotion starts today. GameStop receipts generate a $5 off a purchase $25 or more coupon that is redeemable December 2 through January 8, 2010. Two GameStop offers will be generated on Payless receipts. One is “get the hottest new games for $19.99 when you trade-in two select games,” through Dec. 6, as well as “2,500 game gifts for under $20″ offered Dec. 7-28. Not sure how many Payless customers are used to trading in games. “This holiday season our aim is to bring holiday joy to shoppers by allowing them to save now, feel good and Payless, and our cross-promotional offers with GameStop

    EA alters Battlefield Heroes pricing

We’re sort of becoming used to the microtransaction model for online games. Basically you can play a game for free, but at some point, you may have to buy bullets or buy more time. Something is limited to the point where you can stop playing for the day, or shell out money. EA created free-to-play Battlefield Heroes with that idea in mind where players can play for free but have to invest in items such as virtual weapons or perks. The community seems to be upset because there are changes to the cost of in-game items. The changes men that real-money cost of many items have been reduced but the number of Valor Points (in-game currency) has been increased. Increased by so much that as Ars Technica claims, playing your way to richness requires so much game time that it’s basically impossible. Follow

Riccitiello: Digital to takeover boxed products in 2010

Today John Riccitiello has predicted that emerging online-based gaming models will be the dominate force over traditional console based gaming models by next year. “When people think of games they traditionally think of the Xbox, PlayStation and Wii,” Riccitiello told Reuters in a video interview. “They forget about all these online services that are out there – subscription, microstransactions, games they find on Facebook or if they go to Pogo. If you add all that stuff up, it’s almost half of the industry now. It’s about 40-45 per cent. “Next year it’s likely to be a larger share of the total industry and it’ll be bigger than the console games all put together.” Although he does reassure that packaged gamers aren’t going anywhere. “We’re the world’s leader in packaged goods games, we make more of them than anybody,” he added. “We’re not suggesting that business is going away but there’s
