Review – Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (and Contest)

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, published and developed by the British team, Codemasters is a highly realistic, tactical first person shooter. The plot takes place in an alternate timeline in 2011 where the U.S. is at war with China, due to negotiations with Russia. Despite it’s fictional storyline, the game is a pragmatic representation of a modern war in terms of atmosphere and combat. Rating: M for Mature (PEGI: 18) Genre: Tactical Shooter Publisher: Codemasters Release Date: October 6th, 2009 RENT The rendering is a bit poorly done for a next gen title, with flat, heavily pixilated foliage and washed out colors. Several aspects of the environment don’t look particular realistic, and the game is frequently colored in chromatic grays, making it hard to spot targets from a far off distance, with noticeable screen tearing. However, the maps are quite large and the draw distance in the game is immense. The

SC:Conviction Delayed Until April 2010, New Assassin’s Creed This Year

Ubi Montreal’s Marketing Manager Christophe Grandjean announced via Twitter today that Splinter Cell Conviction has been delayed until April 2010. It’s only a couple months, however it makes sense seeing as Bioshock 2 is going to steal the limelight in February, and it wouldn’t want to compete with Final Fantasy XIII in March. There has been no official press release so far detailing why. Also from his Twitter stream, it appears a new Assassin’s Creed is due to be released during fiscal 2010-11. It remains to be seen if this is Assassin’s Creed 3 or another game tied to the trilogy. Follow

Greenpeace gives out their best of CES 2010 awards

You might think that CES is all about the glitter and glam of gadgets. Factors like thinness, size, brightness of the screen are all important to the mass of reporters that attend the Consumer Electronics Show ever year. But one group is looking past all that. Greenpeace looks at what companies are doing and how they are introducing products free of hazardous substances. Something many of us that love gadgets don’t think about, but probably should. Greenpeace’s Guide from the CES show had Apple, Sony Ericsson and Nokia leading the way with HP following the list. Hewlett-Packard was targeted last year and this year has come back with the HP Compaq 8000f Elite Ultra Slim Desktop PC, earning Greenpeace’s “Best in Show” award. When there is a best, there’s always a worst. The winner of the worst award this year is Samsung. They still use toxic chemicals in its products.
