“James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game” Licensed for 3D

So, you can go to the local IMAX and watch a movie in 3D. You can do it at the local movie theatre. Soon, you’ll be able to buy a 3D-capable television. So, what combines all of these? A 3D video game based on a movie, of course! Ubisoft has licensed and integrated RealD technology into James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game. That means that when you play it on a 3D-enabled television, the Na’vi will be in your living room with you. Or at least coming out of your television. A little bit. Possibly while pointing spears in your direction. This is done with no special equipment except a 3D television and 3D glasses (which would be quite the hefty investment, so luckily the feature will be built into the game). Does this blur the line of reality in gaming a little too much? With people complaining of depression after

Day 1: Heavy Rain “Four Days Challenge” Investigation

Yeah, the industry likes to up the ante as far as sales however, viral marketing should whet our whistles with “heavy” anticipation; excited intrawebs nerds such as I, want to participate in presumptive flaming before we have access to the actual game. Nothing is more satisfying than a clever and well-executed viral marketing campaign, but I can think of a few video-game companies that have very recently bombed as far as creating something “virally” substantial goes—we won’t go there. Quantic Dream has my undivided attention with their recently announced “Four Day Challenge” on behalf of PS3 exclusive and interactive murder-mystery, Heavy Rain. If you have yet to sign-up, http://www.heavyrainps3.com will put your detective skills to the test. Now, here’s where it gets interesting: yours truly has been playing Quantic Dream’s silly games all afternoon, following her nose, and thinking way harder than she probably should be and while it’s to

Influential author J.D. Salinger dies at 91

I think just about everyone I know has at least read The Catcher in the Rye, even if it was for school, and has enjoyed the book. I have to say that it’s definitely one of my favorites and I’ve gone back to read it several times. Sadly it was reported today that J.D. Salinger died at the age of 91 yesterday in New Hampshire. Salinger was born in 1919 and raised in Manhattan. He began to write in secondary school and published several stories before serving in World War II. But it was in 1951 when The Catcher in the Rye was published did he see major success. His depiction of adolescence has remained influential to readers to this day and the book still sells well every year. But after the success of The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger became more of a recluse and very protective of his

We’ve known for some time that there was going to be some form of Alice in Wonderland accessories coming to launch the movie, but I have to say that I think this collection approved with the Disney stamp is magnificent. Disney announced a line of dresses from designer Sue Wong, jewelry from Tom Binns (the lovely keyhole & keys necklace pictured left is one of his masterpieces), Swarovski, and Stella McCartney, make-up from Urban Decay, and nail polish from OPI. Most of the lower end pieces will be available at Bloomingdale’s and several other department and specialty locations. Apparel and jewelry will start at $50-$250, while limited run pieces will run $600-$1000, and you’ll have to go to an upscale boutique to find those items. OPI’s nail polishes are set to retail at $8.50 and can be found at most beauty salons. The shades have been creatively named Absolutely Alice,

PMS Clan at Carolina Games Summit

Members of the PMS Clan (before you think too much into it, that stands for “Pandora’s Mighty Soldiers”), the world’s largest all-female online gaming clan, is going to invade the Carolina Games Summit (sponsored by the Escapist Magazine) in Goldsboro, NC on February 6 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. They’ll be present with their male counterparts, the H2O Clan. (Since the PMS Clan is very inclusive and has over 2,000 members, it might be a little hard to get everyone there. But that would be awesome.) The ladies (and the guys!) have a pretty awesome reason to be there: They’ve organized Modern Warfare 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 tournaments. Both will be 4v4, with each player getting an individual Xbox 360 and headset. Players interested in participating can register online for $10 at carolinagamessummit.com. Registering now ensures a spot in one of 19 tournaments taking place at the
