Amazon Annouces Kindle Development Kits

kindleA huge announcement  today dealing with the Amazon Kindle.  For the longest time Amazon has offered publishers and author the opportunity to upload their content to the Kindle store.  Now, software developers are being invited to develop interactive content to be sold in the Kindle Store, which is projected to be later this year.

In order for this content to be develop, a Kindle Development Kits is available to all those looking to make this new content. Within the kit it contains, program interfaces, tools, and documentation, to be more specific includes sample code, documentation, and the Kindle Simulator, which helps developers build and test their content by simulating the 6-inch Kindle and 9.7-inch Kindle DX on Mac, PC, and Linux desktops. All these things will get software developers ready to make cool new content for the kindle.

If you are interested in the this development package it there will be available in a limited beta test, and more slots will become available as time goes on.

What does ultimately mean for us?  This means games will soon be available on the kindle for download, and with its 3G connectivity, available at all times.  Even EA mobile has already discussed providing some of its popular games on the Kindle.  Gives you ever more of a reason to buy a Kindle.
