DJ Hero is 2009′s Highest Grossing New IP

Looks like despite dismal sales, Activision’s DJ Hero title is 2009′s highest-grossing new IP. The title, one of many in the “Hero” line, allows players to control a faux turntable while listening to some pretty hot mashups. Instead of sticking to only rock music, as previous guitar-focused games tended to do, no one genre is the main focus of DJ Hero.
Since its late October release date, DJ Hero has garnered much acclaim from critics, and even ended up on several end-of-year “best of” lists. This, along with its diverse tracklist, probably contributed hugely to the game’s success. Guess that pretty much confirms a DJ Hero 2. Glad to see that my plastic turntable will be getting more of a workout.
However, a bigger question is, what games did DJ Hero supposedly beat? How many new IPs came onto the scene in the past year? Are you surprised? Leave answers in the comments.
