Nintendo reporting healthy Holiday sales

ZeldaSpiritTracks Box ArtNintendo is reporting that over the holiday season they had very good sales with the Wii system, and this does not surprise me. With the new Mario game as well as with the large amount of press that Wii Fit plus and the other workout games are getting they have had a great chance to grab the attention of the market again. The DS also received good sales with the new The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks game that was released before the holidays.

“The millions of people who bought Nintendo hardware during the holidays can look forward to enjoying great games on those systems now and in the future,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks for Nintendo DS, and Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros. Wii are all currently providing Nintendo fans with amazing experiences and fun adventures for the whole family.”

Official data has not been released yet by NPD for December 2009, but it’s safe to say that Nintendo’s numbers will be high. Nintendo is already estimating that the DS and DSi have set a new US record for sales and that sales in the US for the New Super Mario Bros. are approaching 4 million units. It will be interesting to see the official numbers once they’re released on January 14th and compare them to how well Microsoft and Sony did with their systems.
