LEGO Universe MMO Beta Sign-ups Happening Now

Do you love LEGO blocks? LEGO-branded games? Well, massively-multiplayer online game LEGO Universe has entered the last stage of testing before launch, and they need some beta testers to help out. In LEGO Universe, you can build items to your heart’s content, participate in battles, play minigames, and a lot more. Parents get almost complete control over their kids’ activities in game, with the ability to limit them to certain areas or activities as well as the ability to set a time limit. (Naturally, if you’re not a child, you can play however you wish and without Mom’s permission.) Since the game is likely to be released on a subscription model, beta testing now is a pretty good way to get to play for free before the actual version hits, even though you’re likely to run into some bugs. The official version will be released sometime in 2010. Follow

It’s Just That Time of Year: Ubisoft Reports Third-Quarter 09-10 Sales

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Well, in a sense. Now is when all the companies release their third quarter financial results, in case you haven’t noticed, and they do include Holiday 2009 numbers, so it’s really two-fold. Except one of those folds happens four times a year. Anyway. Ubisoft did have a slight dip in sales (2.7% drop in year-over-year sales), but compared to the first half of the year, when they had a dip of about 20 times that, I think they’re golden, and they have Assassin’s Creed II to thank for that particular recovery. They must realize it too, since the fourth quarter will see an Assassin’s Creed II Director’s Cut for PC. We’ll also see the release of Red Steel 2 for Wii and The Settlers 7 and Silent Hunter 5 for PC. As far as PC titles go, Ubisoft says that online services

Uforia, Inc., an online game publisher with a specialty in MMOs, announced Camon Hero. Camon Hero is a unique kind of trading card-based MMORPG hitting the internet this spring. This game offers card summoning and card creation systems, crafting, item dismantling, never-ending quests, unique PVP (player vs player) battles and a lot more. A quote from the CEO of Uforia, JK Kim, says: “We are excited about Camon Hero because it it such a unique addition to the Uforia portfolio. While there are many choices in the MMORPG category today, it is rare to find a game that offers players a chance to experience a trading card game and MMORPG all in one.” In the game itself, players will travel through the land of Aria hoping to save its inhabitants from the forces of darkness. During the quests, players will find mystical cards that let them have the ability to

Have you heard the Buzz? Google Buzz that is!

Oh Google.  Are we feeling left out of the social networking buzz? Wish you could be a little bit more like Twitter and Facebook? Well, your day has come! If you haven’t heard yet, Google Inc. has developed a new feature which will let users of Gmail, view status updates and media from their online counterparts.  Labeled as “Google Buzz”, a tab will appear in the Gmail application where users can add media, links, photo, status updates, and of course, the @ messages for others to view. One of the pros of the Buzz is the fact that you don’t have to go through the whole adding process which was a time consuming on Twitter and Facebook. Instead, if you are linked to others via Gmail,  then BAM! you are already friends.  Of course, the true question is if Google Buzz can hold its own with such social giants as Twitter and

Guest Article: 2010 Upgrade Necessities for a She-Geek

There are a number of gadgets and systems I want to get in the next few months, most of which I consider must-haves. And quite frankly I can’t afford them all. Not if I want to be a responsible adult and stay on top of my mortgage repayments, keep a savings buffer and you know, eat food. Oh and there’s the wedding to pay for. Ok so I had to choose the pretty dress. And the diamond ring. Curse my materialism. My PC is SLOW. The Pentium 4 running 2Gb still does the job. And the old GeForce 7800GS graphics card runs my favourite games; BF2 and CounterStrike. She was a good machine in her day. But trying to play new games? Forget it. I have to borrow the fiance’s computer to play any new releases and trying to get near that thing is like trying to take a cat

America’s Next Top Model gets a new judge and new cast

America’s Next Top Model is back! The show launches on March, 10 and you know we’ll be there to talk about the latest 13 hopefuls.  But this is the 14th season and things are changing a little bit. First, a brand new judge will be joining Tyra Banks and Nigel Barker. Andre Leon Talley is the Editor-at-Large at Vogue and is used to seeing runway models from all over the world. And if you’re asking what’s going to happen to Miss J. Alexander? The Runway Queen will be taking on a mentoring role this season. “After cycles of watching the girls not get it right, I thought they would benefit more from my ‘high heels’ and hands-on approach than my sitting in a chair judging their photos,” said Alexander. “And with Andre Leon Talley, this should be the best cycle yet.” Also new this season, the guest judge will rotate.

Aussie fined after pirating Super Mario Bros. Wii

I would throw in a whole bunch of Mario references, but the pipe that James Burt of Brisbane (in Queensland, Australia) has sunk himself into is probably long enough without it. James, age 24, has been fined for uploading a copy of the Super Mario Bros Wii game onto a (now closed) website for others to download. The total amount of the fine is $1.5 Million Australian Dollars, which works out to be roughly $1,309,240US. Oh, and he also has to pay court costs of $100,000AUD. Under Australian law, to copy and distribute a game (or any other media really) without the permission of the copyright holder is a breach of the Copyright Act. Nintendo chased after him because when he got the game a week earlier than the official release date he proceeded to try out his piracy skills pretty much ASAP. The official release date was November 12th

Tune in to Terebi Special: Saigo no Yakusoku

It’s not too often that Japanese drama fans get the chance to see more than one member of J-pop super boy band ARASHI in a single show. On Jan 9th, we were treated to a two hour special made for TV movie Saigo no Yakusoku (The Last Promise), in which the five singers play individuals trapped inside the main office building of a major biofuel company while it locked down by terrorists. Taking on the roles of a janitor (Satoshi Ohno), a delivery driver (Matsumoto Jun), an insurance salesman (Sakurai Sho), a coffee shop employee (Aiba Masaki) and security systems engineer (Ninomiya Kazunari), the five heartthrobs attempt to save the rest of the hostages before the ninety minute counter on the bomb runs down. The boys are no strangers to the big and small screens of Japan. Most notably Nino’s Hollywood debut in Letters to Iwo Jima and Jun’s role
