    Tokyo Game Show dates announced

It was announced that the Tokyo Game Show will take place from September 16-19 at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Tokyo. The CESA is focusing this year on drawing in more attendees from Asia by having a special forum dedicated to the Asian gaming industry. They also have said that they plan on teaming up with travel agencies to try and attract more people from Asian markets. Now we already had a bit of an idea that the convention was going to take place around this time, however it wasn’t clear if they were going to have a three or four day convention. It will be interesting to see how the focus on the Asian gaming industry will fare with the show as a whole, and also if the attendence numbers will pick up from last year. If you plan on going may want to start saving now! Via

“Risen” Makes the Jump from PC to 360

The Xbox 360 just got another fantasy RPG added to the title library. Deep Silver announced today that Risen is now available on the Xbox 360 in North America. Risen is a classic fantasy RPG in which players must make crucial choices along their quest to aid in humanity’s struggle for survival against ancient beings. Players craft their own storylines by deciding which faction of resistance to join, which style of character development to pursue, and what kinds of interactions their character will have.  Each decision makes an impact on the game’s storyline (as you would expect these days). The title also features an open-world environment for free-roaming gameplay as well as multiple side quests. The game was previously released for the PC to positive reviews. For more information on Risen, please visit http://risen.deepsilver.com. Follow

Two Dr. Seuss ebooks comes to the iPhone

Two Dr. Seuss books are coming to the iPhone App Store as e-books. But these aren’t simple books transformed into an electronic version. Oceanhouse Media created the app to either read the story to the child or allow the child to read it at their own pace. Pages are changed with a swipe and words are highlighted as the automatic reader goes. The Cat in the Hat and Dr. Seuss ABC are the first two books, but I definitely hope that more Dr. Seuss books will get the same treatment. [source via Frisky Mongoose] Follow

Guest Article: My First Global Game Jam

My name is Robin Mays and this year I am participating in my first SPSU Global Game Jam. OMG, this is so exciting!! But, before I go into the events of the past few days, please allow me to give a tad bit of the back story that lead up to this. I have spent the past 18 years of my life as an audio engineer in Atlanta, Georgia and I have spent the majority (11 years) working for a rapper name Too Short. Along with him, I have worked with many other recording artists over the years from Will Smith to E-40 and I have enjoyed every minute of it.  In 2005, my life took a turn that would take me away from the music and steer me towards game development. I became pregnant with my wonderful son, Tyler and decided to follow a suppressed dream of game programming.
