Who Likes Pie? PB Winterbottom Giveaway

By: Yukino

Tweet

Mmmmmm pie. Everyone loves pie. With or without crust, savoury or sweet, almost every one of us has a favourite pie that we love to treat ourselves to.

GamingAngels wants to give you the chance to win an XBLA code for the Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom. Entering is super simple. Just share with us your favourite pie in the comments below. Have a picture or recipe to add to it? Earn an extra entry.

The contest is open until 11:59pm Pacific Sunday Feb 21st. Make sure you use a valid email address so we can send you your winnings. You’ll have to live in the US or Canada for the code to work.

Pour some Maple Syrup on me!

One of my personal favourite pies is Tourtiere, a traditional meat pie for French Canadian households. I’m also a big fan of banana cream pie with gooey banana slices inside and mud pie, because chocolate is delicious.

Old-fashioned Banana Cream Pie:
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_LuT4cCnLT1g/Stz9A3mWRgI/...

Ingredients:

* 1 9-inch pie shell, baked
* 3 cups whole milk
* 3/4 cup white sugar
* 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
* 2 tablespoons butter
* 1 teaspoon vanilla
* 3 bananas

Directions:

Have baked 9-inch pie shell ready.

In a large saucepan, scald the milk.

In another saucepan, combine the sugar, flour and salt; gradually stir in the scalded milk.

Over medium heat, stirring constantly, cook until thickened.

Cover and, stirring occasionally, cook for two minutes longer.

In a small bowl, have the 3 egg yolks, slightly beaten, ready; stir a small amount of the hot mixture into beaten
yolks; when thoroughly combined, stir yolks into hot mixture.

Cook for one minute longer, stirring constantly.

Remove from heat and blend in the butter and vanilla.

Let sit until lukewarm.

When ready to pour, slice bananas and scatter in pie shell; pour warm mixture over bananas.

If desired, make a meringue (you'll have 3 leftover egg whites) to top the pie, or just let the pie cool until serving.

I like pumpkin pie best, it's usually not too sweet.
here's s recipe.
Ingredients* 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
* 2 cups canned pumpkin, mashed
* 1 cup sugar
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1 egg plus 2 egg yolks, slightly beaten
* 1 cup half-and-half
* 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) melted butter
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger, optional
* 1 piece pre-made pie dough
* Whipped cream, for toppingDirectionsPreheat the oven to 350 degrees F.Place 1 piece of pre-made pie dough down into a (9-inch) pie pan and press down along the bottom and all sides. Pinch and crimp the edges together to make a pretty pattern. Put the pie shell back into the freezer for 1 hour to firm up. Fit a piece of aluminum foil to cover the inside of the shell completely. Fill the shell up to the edges with pie weights or dried beans (about 2 pounds) and place it in the oven. Bake for 10 minutes, remove the foil and pie weights and bake for another 10 minutes or until the crust is dried out and beginning to color.For the filling, in a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese with a hand mixer. Add the pumpkin and beat until combined. Add the sugar and salt, and beat until combined. Add the eggs mixed with the yolks, half-and-half, and melted butter, and beat until combined. Finally, add the vanilla, cinnamon, and ginger, if using, and beat until incorporated.Pour the filling into the warm prepared pie crust and bake for 50 minutes, or until the center is set. Place the pie on a wire rack and cool to room temperature. Cut into slices and top each piece with a generous amount of whipped cream.

Hmmm. I will be an embarrassment to all my Twitter chef friends and say: coconut cream pudding pie. Easy as pie.
1 graham cracker crust
1 box of coconut cream jello pudding
tub of cool whip
1 small bag of candied coconutcook pudding according to directions (stove version) and pour it into the pie crust.
Put it in the fridge until it's cold and pudding has hardened. Pull out of the fridge, slather that baby with cool whip and throw the coconut on top. Grab fork and sit down to play a little Winterbottom.

My favorite just may be Key Lime Pie - we had a key lime tree in our backyard when I was just a wee girl and my mom made the pies for every holiday, school functions, etc. Sometimes she made the meringue topping, but I prefer the whipped cream...This recipe looks very similar to what she made - except that she usually just used a store-bought graham cracker crust to save time. And notice that the pie is yellow, *not* green!http://www.joyofbaking.com/KeyLimePie.html

Can I suggest *kindly* that if you want to score yourself an extra entry by using a recipe, that you please state whether your ingredient measurements are in Imperial or Metric? I would find that IMMENSELY helpful since I live on Metric alone, and I will be compiling your recipes for my own personal use. K THX. :DAnd now I'm thinking about yummy pies... :(

I know that! But it's a bit hard to know if a recipe is Metric or Imperial when it's posted, and you don't say anything... unless it has an Oreo crust or Reese's Pieces in the ingredients... then I KNOW it's Imperial (cos we don't have those here... :( )

I care! I'm from Canada, and we use metric too. Imperial measuring cups are off when it comes to 1 cup=250ml (they are always around 235ml=1 cup) so I adjust to what I know and things generally work out ok.

I think part of the reason that our cups only equal 235 is that most people don't know or have both liquid and dry measuring cups. The difference is slight, but it's there! My mom is the only person I know who has both. :x I'm not even sure most recipes differentiate.

I like pumpkin pie best, it's usually not too sweet.
here's s recipe.
Ingredients

* 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
* 2 cups canned pumpkin, mashed
* 1 cup sugar
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1 egg plus 2 egg yolks, slightly beaten
* 1 cup half-and-half
* 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) melted butter
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger, optional
* 1 piece pre-made pie dough
* Whipped cream, for topping

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Place 1 piece of pre-made pie dough down into a (9-inch) pie pan and press down along the bottom and all sides. Bake for 10 minutes, remove the foil and pie weights and bake for another 10 minutes or until the crust is dried out and beginning to color.

For the filling, in a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese with a hand mixer. Add the pumpkin and beat until combined. Add the sugar and salt, and beat until combined. Add the eggs mixed with the yolks, half-and-half, and melted butter, and beat until combined. Finally, add the vanilla, cinnamon, and ginger, if using, and beat until incorporated.

Pour the filling into the warm prepared pie crust and bake for 50 minutes, or until the center is set. Place the pie on a wire rack and cool to room temperature. Cut into slices and top each piece with a generous amount of whipped cream.
