Blizzard releases background info for pre-Cataclysm content

If you’ve been keeping your ear to the ground no doubt you’ve heard that there will be some big events pre-Cataclysm, as well as the audio files and info for the Gnomes and Trolls who will be fighting to regain their homelands. Well today Blizzard released info (via Nethaera) about the details of Vol’jin and High Tinker Gelbin Mekkatorque planning assaults to take back what they lost. The info pages really give some good background on how and why they lost Echo Isles and Gnomeregan. The story even goes so far as to explain the previous wins against Thermaplugg and Zalazane and how these were just ruses to make Mekkatorque and Vol’jin believe that they were able to defeat their enemies. I’m pretty excited for these events to take place and even more excited to know that the Gnomes and Trolls will have their own capitols again. It is a

Final Fantasy XIII Digital Larger-Than-Life Gallery Released Today for iPhone/iPod Touch

Can’t get enough Final Fantasy XIII? (Full disclosure: Neither can I.) Well, Square’s bringing the art to you, and not on some crummy paper, no, ma’am. The Final Fantasy XIII Larger-Than-Life Gallery puts the beautiful art of the current-generation release right at your fingertips, letting you use your fingers and the pinch-zoom gesture of the device to make even the tiniest details way bigger than they’d ever be in some silly book. See, that’s so much better than just putting the book up to your nose, isn’t it? (Also, it’s probably less likely to cause a headache over time.) As you can see from that center image, you can also add a calendar and clock to each beautifully-rendered image, though I’m not sure how much sense that makes without being able to use that as your main clock. (Adding just a calendar, though? That would be nice, and taking a

“Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey” Gameplay Trailer

Yeah, we’ve already seen a trailer for Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, but that one didn’t have too much gameplay in it, did it? Well, since the game is coming out next week, Atlus has seen fit to release another trailer that actually showcases the gameplay, and we’ve got it here. The $34.99 title still includes the soundtrack, just in case you were wondering if they changed their minds about that. (Spoiler alert: They didn’t.) Follow

Kane & Lynch 2 Street Date Announced

IO Interactive, now part of Square Enix, announced today that Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will be released on August 24 in North America, with Europe and other PAL territories getting it August 27, for PC, 360, and PS3. You’ll still be following the same old criminals, but this time with new multiplayer modes. The game also features visuals inspired by documentary filmmaking, making it sometimes a little shaky and gritty, but honestly, that’s pretty cool. Want to see it? Check out the Kane & Lynch website here, which features the first in-game footage released. (There is some blurred nudity and bleeped and unbleeped language, so if you can’t get past the age gate, I recommend you not visit.) Follow

Square Enix Partners with DC Comics to Explore Nier Backstory

Square Enix and DC Comics imprint Wildstorm are teaming up to release three comics explaining some parts of the Nier backstory before the game goes on sale April 27. The comics will reveal information about key game characters, start to answer some major questions about the plot, and get you acquainted with game basics before you can even open the box. They’ll be available in three places: the official Web site at http://www.NierGame.com, on Xbox LIVE Arcade, and on the PlayStation Store. Do you think this idea is really cool, or do you not really like how much information will be getting out before the game’s release? Follow

    Hope is lost

Received a very odd message today from Top Cow. Turns out that Hope, the daughter of Sara Pezzini and Jackie Estacado, has gone missing. The picture above is all we have, but if you take a look at it, there is a hint. Artifacts begins on Free comic book day 2010. It’s possible that Hope may be in that. “If you have any information about the whereabouts of Hope, please contact authorities at the phone number/email address below.” Follow

Rob Zombie to launch a new comic book

Musician and horror movie enthusiast Rob Zombie has announced that he will be releasing a comic book entitled Rob Zombie Presents: Whatever Happened To Baron Von Shock? Due out in May it will be illustrated by Donny Hadiwidjaja and Val Staples and will be distributed by Image Comics. It will be a full color, 32 page book and is set to retail for $3.99. I’ve been an avid fan of Rob Zombie’s for years now, and his side projects have always interested me. Admittedly I have not read his first comic book series Spookshow International which introduces the character El Superbeasto, but looking over the series online it looks pretty fun. I’ve always loved the way Zombie formats his art for his albums and merch and the comic seems to have that same feel to it. “Superbeasto started as a comic book and my point of doing the comic book

Guest Hands On: Sony’s ModNation Racers

What I pretty much figured was nothing more than flash, flare and a whole lot of copying via Little Big Planet, actually turned out to be a retuned and cleaned up version of their modification system. Honestly, using the Playstation 3 to create, play and share was what LBP had started but ModNation Racers pretty much turned LBP on it’s rear and did it all better. They simplified and cleaned up a creation system to modify your racer, your car and completely create a track. You say you’re not that skilled in any of those areas? Not really an artist? It’s cool, they got it covered. The system walks you through it and gives you the tools in a palatable form that you can really get your hands on and doesn’t talk down to you while it does so. When tinkering with the racetrack building system, it encourages you to
