Random House turning to video games for new books

By: stealthyslyth

Many of us are very familiar with video game book adaptations, and I’m sure many of us read them to delve into the universe more. So it’s no surprise that  Random House recently announced that they had set up a small unit to create books related to new and current video games that are out on the market. Book profits haven’t been what they used to be and Random House has already been working on increasing profits with books for e-readers like the Nook and Kindle.

Random House has said that they are currently working on two ideas, but have only hinted that one is an “adventure” and the other is a “horror” genre. They also have a partnership with Stardock to write stories about their game Elemental: War of Magic which is due out this fall. Now hedging their bets on books based on video games can be a bit risky, but I think that if they have good authors behind the books, this idea could be a good one. I’ve already seen games which have had some amazing books come out of them and I could easily see that books relating to a video game becoming a bigger market.
