Everyone, if you haven’t yet seen the new Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law; today is your lucky day. The movie hits shelves today on both DVD and Blu-Ray, and has a bundle of exciting things to go with it!

First of all, if you rush out today and purchase the Blu-Ray version of the movie, you can sign-up to attend a special screening of the movie with Robert Downey Jr. on Thursday where you can ask him questions about the movie. How you ask? Well, pay attention:

Star Robert Downey, Jr. will answer questions during the Sherlock Holmes LCS on April 1, 2010, the third Warner Bros. LCS to feature real-time audio to enhance the interactive experience. The LCS, which showcases the expansive capabilities and interactivity offered with Blu-ray and Warner Bros. BD-Live, will take place on April 1st at 9:00PM EST (6:00PM PST) live from Los Angeles. The LCS will allow users of BD-Live capable Blu-ray players to simultaneously watch the movie with Robert Downey, Jr. and hear an interactive Q&A where fans can submit questions about the blockbuster film, directly from their homes. The LCS will also post questions and answers in text form.

Warner Bros. BD-Live community members who have registered and signed up at the Sherlock Holmes LCS registration page – www.SherlockHolmesBlurayEvent.com – will receive an emailed invitation to participate in the event. WB BD-Live registered users who own the Blu-ray Disc and have signed up for the BD-Live LCS event will be able to insert the disc, connect to WB BD-Live and logon to the LCS at this designated time to participate in this exciting event.

You can grab a copy of Sherlock Holmes on Blu-Ray at the WB Shop or at the GamingAngels Amazon Store. The DVD Version of the movie has a special “Sherlock Holmes Reinvented” feature. However, the Blu-Ray version while also coming packed with both a DVD and digital version of the movie, also hosts the Maximum Movie Mode with director Guy Ritchie.

If you have seen the movie, then I don’t really need to tell you how awesome it is. Even if you’re not a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, I think this movie has something for everyone. But if you haven’t seen it, and need a little convincing, here’s the basics:

Sherlock Holmes has made his reputation finding the truth at the heart of the most complex mysteries. With the aid of Dr. John Watson, his trusted ally, the renowned “consulting detective” is unequaled in his pursuit of criminals of every stripe, whether relying on his singular powers of observation, his remarkable deductive skills, or the blunt force of his fists.

But now a storm is gathering over London, a threat unlike anything that Holmes has ever confronted…and just the challenge he’s looking for.
After a string of brutal, ritualistic murders, Holmes and Watson arrive just in time to save the latest victim and uncover the killer: the unrepentant Lord Blackwood. As he approaches his scheduled hanging, Blackwood–who has terrorized inmates and jailers alike with his seeming connection to dark and powerful forces–warns Holmes that death has no power over him and, in fact, his execution plays right into Blackwood’s plans.

And when, by all indications, Blackwood makes good on his promise, his apparent resurrection panics London and confounds Scotland Yard. But to Holmes, the game is afoot.
Racing to stop Blackwood’s deadly plot, Holmes and Watson plunge into a world of the dark arts and startling new technologies, where logic is sometimes the best crime-fighting weapon…but where a good right hook will often do the job.

Sounds crazy, yes? It is, but in such a good way. The relationship between Holmes and Watson has been so studied for decades and I think Ritchie got it just right. There’s a little bit of bromance, a little co-dependency and a little bit of independence between the men. Rachel McAdams does a stellar job at playing “the Woman” Irene Adler, and Mark Strong is a great evil Blackwood. The movie has many references to the books as well as some of the older movies, and indeed does a great job of placing the movie in the right historical backdrop. I very highly recommend grabbing this movie for your collection.
