When’s the Last Time You Donated Money for Free, and Got to Play a Game, Too?

Capcom is promoting Lost Planet 2 through its new “Kill Big for Charity” program. What does it entail? Well, the first one million people on PS3 and Xbox 360 to download the multiplayer demo amounts to a $20,000 charity donation from Capcom to Music for Relief. If another 500,000 people download the demo (making 1.5 million downloads), Capcom will donate another $5,000. The early access to the beta (through www.lostplanetcommunity.com and various blogs) started yesterday, and this promotion is running until May 5. Capcom is also holding a pre-launch party in Los Angeles on May 6 to celebrate Lost Planet 2′s May 11 release. Everything’s Going “Extreme” These Days, Even Diplomacy

What do you think of when you hear “extreme diplomacy?” I think about two 1600s-era statesmen, powdered wigs and all, shouting at each other about their respective countries’ interests – while skateboarding down a mountain. I don’t know how on Earth the wheels don’t get stuck on rocks on the way down. That’s just part of what makes it extreme. 2K Games is taking it a little farther with a new game mode in Civilization V (called “extreme diplomacy,” of course). Just in case your normal diplomacy isn’t cutting it, entering EXTREME mode allows two world leaders to enter a death match and fight to the finish with special attacks and finishing moves. The winner obtains full control of the challenger’s empire. Two enter, one leaves. Yada yada yada. A special “Uber” Edition of the game will include an eight-button joystick to make pulling off those classic fighter moves just

Blitz Celebrates 20 Years with Some Major Game Signing

Seeing as Blitz has been around 20 years now, it’s only fitting that its biggest ever game release is happening in just a few weeks – Dead to Rights: Retribution. However, the studio, well-known for its family titles (including television tie-ins, definitely excluding “Dead to Rights”), has signed a deal for another major title to come in 2011, according to a press release sent out yesterday. That’s all well and good, but what is the title? You can’t just tease us like that, Blitz. Sigh. Anyway, they’re also releasing multiple indie titles throughout 2010 for multiple consoles through the Studios’ Blitz 1UP label. (No, we’re not sure what those are, either.)

Review – Nancy Drew Dossier: Resorting to Danger

*Contest Alert! See details at the end of this review about how to win your copy of this game!* Platform: PC ESRB: E 10 Number of Players: 1 Publisher: Her Interactive Release Date: September 2009 Official Website When I was offered the chance to review a game set in a luxurious resort, of course I jumped out of my seat to do so. Resorting to danger is the second installment of the Nancy Drew Dossier series (the first being Lights, Camera, Curses), the more casual of the Nancy Drew franchises. In Resorting to Danger, players play as the quick witted Nancy Drew as she attempts to expose and stop a bomber at a posh resort on the coast, while playing the role of “spa gopher” so as to not alarm the well to do clientele. This setting does prove to be a great way to introduce some very distinct personalities.
