Video Game Voters Gathering Steam to Start Protecting Gamers’ Rights

Politicians have, over and over again, scapegoated video games. It’s politics. Feeding on the fears of people to get more votes. Some politicians feel that it’s necessary to distinguish video games from other media, like books and movies. They call them teaching tools, but never in a good way: Leland Yee, sponsor of a California ban on selling M-rated titles to children, has said in the past that they teach children “how to kill…to hurt people.” Those of us who think differently might want to start disagreeing with him immediately. Well, two California Supreme Courts have thought it necessary to disagree, as well. The ban’s been struck down twice and rejected as unconstitutional, but video game critics haven’t backed down yet – the Supreme Court of the United States may hear the case soon. The Video Game Voters Network, sponsored by the Entertainment Software Association, is designed to inform the

An Award’s A Great Reason to Give Us a Discount, Right RedLynx?

Since RedLynx’s “Trials HD” was just voted Best Overall Arcade Game on Xbox LIVE Arcade for 2009, they’re passing on the happiness to us! To say thanks to us, the voting public, RedLynx has discounted an earlier game, Trials 2 SE, to $1.99. It’ll be available at that price in the RedLynx store until April 14. A fun tidbit: The number of people playing that game is currently double the population of RedLynx’s home base, Helsinki. It’s pretty easy to get behind the idea of celebrating wins together, especially if it means discounts, don’t you agree? Follow

The Last Airbender Gets Obvious Movie Tie-In

THQ announced today that they plan to bring The Last Airbender movie tie-in game to Wii, DS, and DSi in June 2010. They promise to “immerse players in the world of bending” (which may make  a lot more sense if you’ve watched the show – I haven’t). The game will let you play as Aang or the Blue Spirit, or even the antagonist, Zuko. Several scenes from the movie will be lovingly recreated, and using the Remote and Nunchuk will assist you in bending. From THQ’s description of the game: About The Last Airbender Video Game The Last Airbender video game revisits captivating, climactic scenes from the film while providing the player a much more indepth experience. The game is told from the unique perspective of the antagonist Zuko, exiled prince of the Fire Nation, who embarks on a personal quest to capture the Avatar, a young boy named Aang,

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm beta inching closer

According to numerous reports I’ve seen so far today, there have been emails circulating to members of the press regarding interest in the Cataclysm beta opt-in and asking for any interested to respond with battle.net accounts by April 15. So for all of those WoW fans who have been anxiously awaiting news about the beta, I think we finally have our confirmation that the beta will be starting soon! I haven’t been hands on with Cataclysm since Blizzcon 2009, so I’d be excited to see what they’re going to let us do in the beta. I’m super excited to hopefully check out the entire new Goblin and Worgen starting zones as well as check out what’s new for levels 80-85. And to rejoice in flying mounts in Azeroth! The other exciting thing that this means is the pre-expansion events may begin to hit soon, which I’ve always enjoyed (yes even
