Cooking Mama Finds New Competition in Martha Stewart

Majesco Entertainment and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. (What? I want an omnimedia!) announced an interesting partnership today, in that Majesco will be developing and producing games based on Martha’s giant portfolio of lifestyle content. They’re looking to create a series of consumer-friendly games for the masses in order to get nontraditional gamers to start playing. What kinds of games might we get out of this? Is it going to be more of a Cooking Mama (Cooking Martha?) or just another America’s Test Kitchen? The former is a lot more of a game than the latter, obviously, but if Martha Stewart instructional videos were made available for Nintendo DS, wouldn’t that get more people at least buying the handheld? I do, however, also like to think about what could become. How about “Martha’s Rampage”? Upon finding that gophers have dug up the entire garden (and RUINED the radicchio!), you go

Penny Arcade Scholarship Applications Now Available

Penny Arcade is offering a scholarship for students who intend to enter the game industry in “some capacity” for the fourth time. Current students at accredited U.S. colleges and universities are eligible (as long as they meet the above game industry stipulation and have a GPA above 3.3) for the $10,000 scholarship. If interested, you’ll need to submit a letter about your current studies and how you can benefit the gaming industry, as well as solicit two letters of recommendation from professors/advisors/bosses/etc. Not only that, but they’ll need a school transcript (for verifying GPA) and a photograph (to be used if you actually win). The scholarship only lasts for a year, but $10,000 is a lot of money! If you want to apply, the application is here (PDF), and it needs to be postmarked May 30 or earlier. Follow

Capcom’s Having a Pretty Nice Day

It’s a wonderful day to be Capcom. Announcing a ton of new games (in Hawaii, to boot), including a new series entry that will have a lot of fans incredibly happy. Making people happy makes people happy! To start off, we’ve got Capcom vs. Marvel 3 on the way, and this one promises awesome comic book graphics as well as a compelling storyline! I don’t know how they’re going to manage the latter, but color us intrigued. The title will be released on PS3 and 360 in spring 2011. Ōkamiden, a sequel to Ōkami, is coming out on Nintendo DS in 2011. You play as sun god Chibiterasu, who is armed with a celestial brush (obviously your stylus in this instance) to protect and restore the land. Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 is also on the way in Q1 2011 as a downloadable title on PSN and XBL. Not only is

Is your other ride a Light Cycle?

I’m so excited for the upcoming Tron film. At SDCC we were invited to Flynn’s Arcade where we saw a Light Cycle in person. If you feel like you could ride a Light Cycle every day, you may want to check out the shirt above. Rolf Nelson created the “My Other Ride is a Light Cycle” shirt that is being featured on Threadless. The shirt even glows in the dark. Rolf says: “A few years ago I found an old, working Tron machine at a concert venue, and remembered how awesome the movie was. After hearing about the sequel I figured it would be the right time to try unite other Tron fanatics by designing something they could sport all the time.” Follow

7-Eleven Wants to Be Your Used Games Destination

“Hey, pick me up a Slurpee and God of War III while you’re at 7-Eleven, would ya?” It’s not as far out there as you might think. Game Trading Technologies, Inc. has partnered with 7-Eleven to create a “Great Games Below $20″ program for over 3,000 7-Eleven stores (roughly 50% of the total, they plan to have close to 100% participation by September). So now, after you get your gas, fill up a Slurpee cup, and grab a bag of chips – you can add a game to the mix. GTT is providing a mixture of pre-owned games, all priced below $20, to the stores in the program. GTT also provides regular game replenishment to all locations to ensure a constant supply. 7-Eleven is getting more and more into the gaming arena. Is this latest entry pretty neat, or just a little weird to you? My bet is that this

Guest Article: Vans Warped Tour 2010 Kickoff Event at Key Club

For most, summer means warm temperatures, no school, and blockbuster movies. For punk rock fans, summer means just one thing: Vans Warped Tour. This annual extravaganza of music and extreme sports is celebrating its 16th year, making it the longest-running touring festival in America, and to celebrate, there was a huge kickoff party last Friday night at the Key Club in West Hollywood, Calif. The evening began in the Key Club’s downstairs lounge, where several Warped Tour bands and tour founder Kevin Lyman were on hand to welcome guests and the press. Lyman announced new developments in the tour, including that this year’s line-up of bands was more diverse than previous years, and the tour would include an all-ska stage among others. One of the bands on hand was Shiragirl, whose lead singer (who also goes by Shiragirl) would serve as emcee for the evening’s concert. Shiragirl said she felt

    FarmVille Coming to…Your Cell Phone?

Normally, this might pop up solely in mobile or casual game news, but with more active players online every day than even World of Warcraft, this little FarmVille tidbit is worth mentioning – looks like the game isn’t sticking to your computer for much longer. A sneaky person over at Supererogatory noticed that a few new FarmVille domain names were popping up – namely, Farmvilleandroid.com, Farmvilleipad.com, Farmvilleiphone.com, and Farmvillesms.com. A little WHOIS registry digging turned up the brand-new domain owners – an address that matches Zynga’s already-operational FarmVille.com. You can’t just leave it at that, though. Joystiq got a comment from Zynga about the situation: “Zynga plans to expand to various mobile platforms, but unfortunately, we cannot provide additional information at this time.” (I should also mention that I totally took our image for this post from their article, because I’ve never seen anything that so perfectly encapsulated my feelings

There’s a ridiculously good chance that if you buy Just Cause 2, you won’t be done with it for another six months (unless you’re playing 20 hours a day). Rating: M/PEGI 18 Players: 1 Genre: Action Publisher: Square Enix Developers: Avalanche Studios, Eidos Interactive Release Date: March 23, 2010 (NA) BUY In Just Cause 2, you are Rico Rodriguez, performing acts on behalf of a United States “Agency,” mostly called “The Agency,” because they’re super-inventive.  Your job: Oust Baby Panay from his dictatorship over the small island nation of Panau. He’s oppressing the people, first of all, but he’s also cut all ties to the United States. (Panau was once an ally to the U.S.) This makes you very unhappy. Adding to the confusion is the knowledge that Rico’s ex-commander, Tom Sheldon, has apparently gone rogue. Finding Tom is summarily added to your duties. He was previously a great friend
