Review: Music Skins

By: stealthyslyth

There are many sites or stores out there that have skins that you can buy for your various electronic devices like iPhones, Blackberrys, laptops or game systems. Here at GamingAngels we’ve talked about a few of them in the past. And, I have admired some of the great artwork and design on many of the skins that are currently available. So I was excited to be able to try out a new skin for my PS3 from Music Skins. It’s a snazzy bright red and gold colored skin with a skull design featuring The Venture Brothers.

I was pleased at the idea that this would make my PS3 stand out more, and I got right down to putting the skin on. Before I did anything however, I made sure to wipe down my system so that there was no dust on the surfaces where the skin would be placed. I then started with putting the piece with the large version of the graphic on the top of my PS3. It took a few tries to align it right (silly curved top) but the fact that the skins from Music Skins can be removed and re-applied definitely helped.

Then it came time to place the smaller side pieces. Applying these I had a little more trouble as it seemed that some of the pieces didn’t fit properly or the holes weren’t lining up correctly. However I got the side pieces on and looking relatively nice. I then put the front pieces on, which was also a little tricky, and I actually had to trim the end of a long strip for the front as it was too long and hung off the edge.

However in the end I have to say the result is pretty impressive and worth the little trouble! My PS3 really looks nice now, and definitely stands out amidst my gaming setup. It is also really great to have a Venture Brothers skin on my PS3 to go with the Venture Brothers poster I have hanging in the same room. Even though there were some times where I had to peel the skin off and re-apply to make sure it was on properly, for the most part it was pretty easy and the result is awesome.

I would recommend checking out Music Skins for some art for your game systems or other electronics. They have a large selection of artwork and designs for just about any gadget you could want to cover including more Adult Swim art (Robot Chicken, Venture Brothers, Metalocalypse), models, Obama, charities, regular art (including Domo!) and of course: musicians. There’s a decent selection of musicians but I wouldn’t mind seeing some more Metal artists in the lineup. It would be great to have a Slayer or Iron Maiden 360! The Music Skins website also has a customizer where you can create your own skin, for the device of your choice.
