Blizzard Entertainment Nets Broadcasting Deal with Korean Online Television Network GomTV

If you’re a StarCraft fan, you know that the game has a giant following in Korea. Blizzard is cashing in on this popularity in that country in a way that translates to a lot more than just games sold. An agreement with online television network GomTV gives the channel the rights to broadcast shows based on Blizzard games. For three years, they will be able to broadcast tournaments featuring StarCraft, StarCraft II, Warcraft III and World of Warcraft. Because finding a broadcast partner was important (South Korea has at least three networks dedicated to airing tournaments), Blizzard decided to go ahead and set up an official deal with an e-Sports broadcaster. Mike Morhaime, president of Blizzard, issued a statement this afternoon about the contract. “With the release of Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty approaching, we decided we could not delay any further in finding a trustworthy partner who respected our

London MCM Expo con-goers break World Record

It must be fun to not only visit a gaming convention, but also break a Guinness World Record at the same time. Oh nothing special, just breaking records in their spare time. At the London MCM Expo, visitors set the world record for the Largest Handheld Game Console Party. Over 580 people gathered on Saturday May 29 with their Nintendo DS to break that record. Damian Field, Guinness World Records’ Official Adjudicator, commented: “It is a tremendous achievement for the MCM Expo to reach a number of 586 smashing the existing world record of 381. It’s rare for a UK mass participation to reach over 500.” The con has a previous record involving the Largest Gathering of People in Costumes from a Video Game. These con-goers are not lazy. WiG Weekend: Kathryn Peck, CM for EA Active

Can you tell us a little more about your background in gaming? Well I was a huge gamer when I was a kid. It’s not something that I spent a lot of time doing as I grew older, due in part to how busy I became with sports. Did you approach EA Sports Active as a game, or as a part of fitness? Although EA SPORTS Active was originally made for the Wii, it is definitely a fitness product. We do not see this product as a game and it’s become clear that we have an effective interactive fitness product that has helped many people. As we move forward with EA SPORTS Active 2.0, we will be introducing a heart rate monitor and a wireless tracking system. These new peripherals are going to allow users to track data and get the most out of their workouts. Do you have a

    Review: Able Planet NC300W headphones

I spend a lot of time listening to headsets. I wear them while working, walking, working out and of course, gaming. Upon opening the box, I was very excited to see that this headset includes a carrying case. For me, any large headset requires a carrying case for the protection of my investment as well as to carry any of the extras needed for a headset of this type. As I  investigated this headset, I found it had the following features: a noise cancelling switch, an on-cord volume control, an area on the headset for a battery, (which is for the noise cancelling) and an airplane headset jack. To test it out, I used the headset in two different gadgets: a laptop computer, and a first generation iPod nano. On my laptop, I tested the headset while playing video games and while watching a show with Windows Media Player. I decided
