First Look: Fighting Fantasy, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain

Fighting Fantasy, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is a little DS game brought to us by Aspyr. This game boasts meticulous graphical detail and stunning gameplay. It’s also unique in that it is a first-person RPG for a handheld system. I’m no expert on that, but I don’t believe there’s many of those in existence right now. There are a lot of problems with this that I’ve seen, some which made it almost impossible for me to play for more than 15 minutes at a time, no matter how curious I was. The first thing that really threw me off was, in fact, the fact that it is in first-person view. Normally this isn’t a problem because I love my first-person shooters, and Borderlands was amazing to me. The reason this is a problem is because that you need both hands just to move the camera around. The d-pad is

    Big Omaha 2010: Day One

Motivated by the success of last year’s Big Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska, the guys behind Silicon Prarie News: Jeff Slobotski and Dusty Davidson have brought the whole thing back for a second year.  This time they’ve added more speakers and half of another day.  The fun started Thursday night at The Slowdown with an opening party. Last year, I set out on this journey to Omaha, not really knowing what to expect.  But I knew that there were going to be a lot of smart people at the event, and I hoped to take home just one thing that I could use.  I came home full of

Gods vs Humans announced for Wii

Video game and comic publisher Zallag has announced its latest Wii title Gods vs Humans, which will be available exclusively through WiiWare. Goofy god characters from Norse, Egyptian, Greek-Roman and Japanese mythologies and players use their powers to defeat the humans (peons) with their attempts to build a tower by collapsing the building’s floors and generally wreaking havoc on the mere mortals. Gods come in 16 different flavours including the popular Hades, Ra, Fujin and Thor. Each mythology will have its own character classes with powers to match. Peons also work in a class system, requiring builders and workers for construction as well as priests. The animation reminds us of Loco Roco and the strategy game play perhaps of Boom Blox. Stay tuned for updates from the development team at Artefacts studio including video of the characters in action. For some bonus concept drawings of the game (in French) you
