    WomenGamers.com scholarship for girls

I highly respect and love WomenGamers.com, because they offer things like this scholarship for gaming girls. One day I’d love to offer a scholarship on GamingAngels but until then it’s great to be able to support our friends at WomenGamers.com and promote theirs! If you are or know of a female from ages 8-18, please encourage her to apply for the scholarship to National Computer Camp (NCC). At NCC (http://www.NCCamp.com), campers can design a 2D or 3D video game, learn to program, create a graphic video, take apart a computer, create a home page, play tennis, play Civilization and make new friends. Now in its 33rd year, NCC is America’s original computer camp with locations in Connecticut, Georgia, New York, and Ohio. “What we are looking for in the scholarship applicants is the ability to critically dissect the games they play and understand why they find them engaging,” says Ismini

    Summer Specials from PopCap Games

PopCap games sent us a couple of messages about summer deals for their games. The first deal is the Complete Pack which includes every Mac game from PopCap.com for $49.95. That is 13 games that include Plants vs Zombies, Escape Rosecliff Island, and Zuma’s Revenge. Even better…it’s for the Mac!! The second deal is the Bejeweled Bundle. That bundle is 30% off for the PC. Gamers can pick up Bejeweled 2, Bejeweled Twist, and Bejeweled Blitz. My recommendation is get the 13 games and play Chuzzle right away! It’s so addicting! Follow

WiG Weekend: Interview with Miyuki “Shurelia” Mitsuhashi, Riot Games

It’s a great honor to be able to bring to you another Women in Games feature! This week we feature Miyuki “Shurelia” Mitsuhashi from Riot Games. Riot Games is currently working on League of Legends where Miyuki is an Associate Game Designer. The picture above is her favorite League of Legends champion, Annie. I hope you enjoy this interview as we feature more women that work in the gaming industry. What is your favorite part of working on League of Legends? That’s tough to answer because I really love working on all aspects of League of Legends such as creating Champions, working with balance design and even spending time with our community. If forced to choose, however, I would have to say I like working with the community the most. Our community has some interesting discussions and even provides helpful feedback for the game, so it’s great being able to

Passion, Career Building, and GDC Canada Day Two

It’s 1998. I’m eleven years old. My brother is nine. I flick on the television in the basement of our sticky, hot townhouse in our hometown. Our wide eyes took in this brand spanking new program: Electric Playground. A game review show. It was the first of its kind. We were hooked. Electric Playground became our addiction. As kids, my brother and I couldn’t afford to buy gaming magazines. The internet was still in its infancy. Victor Lucas told us the great games to play, the games to avoid, and the games that would outlast ‘em all. For the most part, it was all fairly accurate. My first taste of E3 was from watching Victor film his way through crowds, interviewing the big boys where he could and exploring all the new tech that would be coming our way at some point. It was intoxicating, thrilling, and completely ahead of

    Review: Alan Wake

Alan Wake is an episodic thriller brought to you by the great minds at Microsoft Game Studios and Remedy Entertainment.  It might not make you jump, but you probably will want to play with the lights on. ESRB: M (for Mature) Players: One Genre: Action/Thriller Publisher: Microsoft Game Studios Developer: Remedy Entertainment Release Date: May 18, 2010 BUY Playing out like a bizarre cross between the BBC’s Life on Mars and Konami’s Silent Hill, the game takes you from Alan’s arrival in Bright Falls with his wife Alice through the six episodes where he tries to rescue her after she goes missing.  There a little bit of a lead up to the action as Alan gets a small introduction to some of the locals after they arrive in town, and you head to the cabin where he and Alice are staying.   It’s not exactly a training scenario like we’re
