Test out Top Gun at Fleet Week

Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will be sailing to Manhattan for Fleet Week New York from May 26-June 2. What else is there to do besides the awesome ships and showing our appreciation to the military? Gamers can stop by Pier 88 (next to USS Iwo Jima) and play Top Gun. That’s right, Top Gun the video game. Players can take the role of Maverick and try and graduate from Top Gun Academy. I can’t think of a more awesome way to play the game, than with Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen. The event takes place today through June 2. If you attend, please send us a pic! Also check the official Facebook page for faq about the event. Look for important information like, “A ship is an industrial environment, so avoid high-heels; necklaces that can get caught and bags that will be too heavy to comfortably. ” Follow

    Review: ModNation Racers (PS3)

ModNation Racers fits in with Sony’s mantra of “Create, Play, Share” like it was the inspiration for it. We know – LittleBigPlanet started it all, but in this world of three-letter acronyms, MNR fits in with LBP and CPS like they’re BFFs. Rating: E Players: Offline: 4; Online multiplayer: 2 local, 12 online Genre: Racing Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment Developers: United Front Games Release Date: May 25, 2010 (NA), May 21, 2010 (PAL) BUY ModNation Racers is as deep or as shallow as you want it to be. As part of Sony’s “Create, Play, Share” initiative, spearheaded by LittleBigPlanet makers Media Molecule, you can choose to do all three or just leave it to one of the bullet points. I’ve done all three, and the experience is incredibly polished and a lot of fun. Sure, it looks like an incredibly polished HD kart racer, but it can be so much

Uncharted 2′s Double Gold Weekend and a Trip to “The Lab”

Since it’s a holiday in the U.S. this weekend (Memorial Day), games are jumping on the “Double/Triple ____ in Multiplayer This Weekend!” bandwagon. We had a post a few days ago on Gears of War 2 doing this, and now another game’s joining the fray. Uncharted is offering double gold in multiplayer this weekend, with a per-match limit of $150,000. This started at 10 a.m. Pacific, but in the event that you’re off work a little early for the Friday/holiday weekend combo, go ahead and start filling your coffers! The double gold event ends on Tuesday morning. The folks at Naughty Dog are also testing out a new feature called “The Lab” this weekend, as well. They’ll be testing variations in multiplayer gameplay that will ultimately lead to a few changes and additions to multiplayer. What’s going on this weekend? The “2 v. 2 Team Deathmatch.” You’ve got 15 minutes

“SOCOM4″ OST to be produced by BSG composer Bear McCreary

His music has already changed the lives of thousands, and now SOCOM4 players will hear exactly why. At just 24 years old, Bear McCreary was brought on to score Battlestar Galactica’s first season and continued to do so throughout the series’ four season run. Now he’s gearing up to produce and record a soundtrack that will accompany players as they stop a militant intent on destroying a key waterway in the single player mode. “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve dreamt of a video game score that would feel as if it were being composed specifically for each player, adapting and shifting perfectly to capture the mood of the individual gamer.  Thanks to the powerful technology available today, and the talented artists and programmers at Sony and Zipper, I was able to write a score that fulfills this promise.” McCreary wrote on his official blog. “My approach to SOCOM 4 began

The Sims 3 Parodies “Sex and the City” at the Most Appropriate Time

Who needs glammed-up movie premieres to get their “Sex” fix? Not me. Another well-timed movie parody from the crew behind EA’s The Sims 3 is out today, and this time it’s a little more “Sex”-y. The girls are back in the theatres, and their Sims, with their game versions resembling the quartet very well. The video is more of a parody of the ninth iteration in the series – assuming we ever get that far. What changes, what stays the same and what kinds of shenanigans do the ladies find themselves in this time? Watch to find out. Follow

    New Hotness: The Unwritten

It’s a ritual for me: hop on the Canada Line to downtown Vancouver, grab a soy latte at the closest Starbucks, and mosey over to my favourite comic book shop, Golden Age Collectibles on Granville St. It was during said ritual that I came across the first issue of The Unwritten, endorsed by Bill Willingham of Fables. Fables ranks pretty high on my “comic love” list, so I figured I’d give it a go. I wasn’t surprised that I liked The Unwritten, with its lush colours and even more colourful language. I wasn’t surprised when it confused me, just a little bit, leaving me wanting more. I was surprised when I loved it so much that I caught myself scouring the comic book shops around Vancouver for an issue that I missed in February and being elated when (after weeks of looking) I found it in the most unlikely place:
